After many months- and a trip to san clemente, ca and back- my qu-bit nebulae v1 is working! this is a snippet from qu-bit’s own double bass sample, run through a mimeophon and qu-bit’s own fdn reverb, with lashings of modulation wherever possible. My wonder at the sheer madness of the sonic experience here is only matched by my joy at having a working granular processor at last.

All i did is that i recorded and played a little riff on my violin with my ipad, and then add some reverb, and delay effects in audacity. (very eerie-like, but pretty). This kind of reverb used in the beginning and end of the riff is a cathedral room-like sound, and a few seconds of delay. I used mostly double-stops during the riff. Enjoy.

Using thin double back tape, i taped the back of the mic to the back of the watch. This watch has cell phone option. A request for freesounder neilreynolds1980, intended as a soundtrack for the play dr faustus at the point the eponymous character is sucked into hell. A bit of technical information: the basic sound is a stacked set of ‘devil’s intervals’ (augmented fourths) with doubling at the octave, playing an instance of calf organ set to a truly horrifying demonic choir patch i created. The rest of the effects are accomplished using automation of this instrument as well as calf pulsator and calf filter in ardour. This sounds much better when downloaded than it does in the freesound player. The stereo image and sample rate are much reduced in the version you hear in the player.

Recorded with my squier telecaster and squire mini-bass through the focusrite interface into reaper. A nod to kenny gioia for the reaper tips. The guitar was sent through the walrus slo pedal on 'dream' setting. Also added a pitch change to compliment some of the guitar parts. The bass was double tracked for better sound. Bass amp is a behringer bxl1800. Comments welcome. Underhood recording of my renault 19 with oldish carburetted cleon engine (c2j). Double barrel webber 32 drt carb ~72ps engine. Start engine, tire skid, hard acceleration up to 6000 rpm and coast down to idle, several times. Throttle blips up to 7000 rpm. Mic: sony ecm-ds30p stereorecorder: sony mz-n707 mini disc, sp mode, agc: off. Wanted to test this cheap mic and custom made windscreen - this is my first car recording, and that's why i started with this cheap microphone, don't want to learn on expensive stuff. Still, i'm amazed how the recording turned out, it's $24 mic in not very silent area, yet it captured sound rather nicely. Windscreen (cost $0) turned out to be not that good :).

So i decided to create a few failure samples on a music-making program called musescore. These are for big whopper failures (or "epic failures") and are very dramatic - they may also be used for a scary event in a film or play. It includes a short buildup and a loud dissonant chord at the end to create suspense and horror. For this project i used violins, violas, cellos, double basses, timpani, cymbals and brass. Enjoy!.

Just a quick recording before class today. Recorded from a tascam dr-07 mk ii stereo in mp3 192 kbps 48,000 hz, pointed a bit to the sky toward a florida mockingbird about 2 meters away. If you listen closely enough, there's some crows in the bg too. Ambiance sound is the sound of a busy divided highway about 500 meters away. I processed this sound in sony sound forge a bit to remove some of it. Just beware, the sound file contains a slight camera double beep at 9 and 15 seconds, although for student film purposes i don't see any penalty for it. This is a sound of a mercedes benz 709d mini bus driving on a really hard icy road. It was a rattly old bus, everything squeaked and rumbled on it. I videoed this journey with my canon powershot a460 digital camera, i simply took the sound from the video. It's a good sound, it turned out well thanks to the winter weather, and the rough icy road.
