Took a violin bow to a chinese guzheng and the results were pretty great. Good for ambience, drones and creepy stuff. Recorded with blue spark and blue bluebird condenser mics through a scarlett 6i6 interface. Uncut with a small glue compressor to minimize spikes.

Afternoon ocean waves, recorded atop of some rocks with a tascam dr-40x. Taken around sandy point bird sanctuary in west haven connecticut on may 20, 2022. Unprocessed, straight 45 minutes of audio. Water laps across rocks, tides come and go. Beginning has sounds of me putting the recorder down and moving some stuff around (whoops!).

Ambiance of staten island's south beach, with device facing the land and a distance boulevard (father capodanno boulevard). The atlantic ocean sprawls behind the recording device. Fades off as an incoming plane nears (south beach falls under newark airspace). Edited to remove wind noise. Recored on 01/07/2021 with an h4n.

This is a great clear and loud recording of a cat purring for an extended period of time with no obtrusive noises in background. Rip pozzo, whom the purr belongs to. He was a very affectionate cat and purred if you so much as stared at him. Happened to catch this sound one night while alone at home with the cat. He was on my lap and my sound equipment happened to be right next to me.

A foggy july morning. The recorder was placed on a rock about 30cm from the edge of the water which was moving very slowly. The waves were really shallow and soft. You can hear uk songbirds in the wooded area behind the recorder and seabirds in front of it. Occasionally you can hear a foghorn in the distance. It is dusk on an autumn evening on the south side of the river thames, a few feet downstream from vauxhall bridge. Innumerable starlings have congregated in a murmuration underneath (in fact inside the fabric of) the bridge to noisily discuss the day before sleep. Overhead, cars and buses thump across the bridge panels, while small groups of city workers, nurses and spies head home or for drinks. All the while the river laps away as an unconscious heartbeat, and is churned up by the thrum of a passing riverboat.

The sound of southampton water at around 5am on a bank holiday monday (national holiday). The microphone was placed right at the shoreline where the water meets the land. There are distant boats/ships, the oil refinery and a few sea birds. There was no wind at all when i first turned up, so i could use the microphone without any wind protection at all. Mixpre3, rode svmx, 17hz hp.

Wind can sometimes play havoc with recording --- but, with some luck you can get good wind recordings. Here is a recording of lake waves lapping at the short of a small lake in southern illinois. This particular day, the winds were blowing steady out of the south at 25 miles an hour, with gusts even higher. Recording made with my trusted zoom h4n recorder, using its built-in microphones. Of course a foam wind-screen made this recording listenable. Without the foam wind-screen the recording would simply have been an obnoxious, unintelligable roar!also, since the waves were so loud to begin with, i did not have to crank the recording gain real high -- i had the gain only on 65 for this recording. .

Over 4 minutes of continuous angry cat sounds, including growling, hissing, and a couple of snorts. Our cat is being handled very gently by my daughter, and as predicted, she expresses her displeasure with sitting on top of my daughter's lap - even when being rubbed.
