I was looking for cicada sounds online and couldn't find one that sounded like the ones here. . . However i got lucky and eventually was able to get a nice, clean recording of one! recorded using a sony ic recorder out my house. Processed in fl studio to remove noise.

This is a recording of the six o'clock cicada taken near to the danum valley rain forest lodge in the primary rain forest of borneo. The 6 o'clock cicada is the loud horn type of sound that can be heard in the fist few seconds of the file. Later in the file other insects come in one sounding more like a car alarm.

The cicadas crawl out of the ground, shed their skins, and climb up into the trees. One cicada makes a loud and distinctive sound, but a whole group of them creates a dull roar. This recording was made on the cemetery ridge trail at clear creek metro park in rockbridge, ohio.
