The desolate, yet peaceful sound of leaves rushing across asphalt and wind in mid-december of 2016. Far off, in echo-land, wind-chimes add a touch of melancholy. Recorded in a small midwest town at 4:30 in the morning on december 11th, 2016 using the sound-devices 702 and two sennheiser mkh66 microphones. Stereo.

One of autumn's most signature sounds is that of dry leaves skittering and tumbling as they ride along on a hard surface. In this case, the hard surface is asphalt. Hardly any other sound, just the strong autumn wind, and bunches of dried out sweet gum, maple and oak leaves racing across an asphalt parking lot. Think of it, also, as the sound from our youth, our careful youth when everything was achievable. At least for me, this brings me back to my happy place. Recorded on saturday october 17 2020 in an asphalt parking lot buffeted by gusts between 20 and 30 mph. Sound devices 702. Sennheiser mkh416 left channel, beyerdynamic m58 right channel.

Northwest wind gusts through a forest of oak and beech and pine trees. Recorded on saturday july 21st, 2018 at 3:30pm in a midwestern forest. Although there are a lot of birds in the forests at this time of year, they were quiet today. A nice, peaceful, soothing snapshot of summer----recorded just 4 weeks after the solstice here in the northern hemishpere. Temp: 84 degrees fhumidity: 51%. Recorder: sound devices 702microphone: sennheiser mkh-416.

Another recording of one of my favorite fall soundscapes featuring cottonwood leaves "shimmering", the lonely call of a blue jay and the soft sound of insects singing a little more quiet than they do in the warmer temps of summer. Recorded using my zoom h4-n recorder, and the famous sm57 microphone.

It's not rain but sounds like rain - fog and damp settling in the trees as a breeze blows. Recorded in the fields above my home in the fog and damp - so sounds amplified and 'hollow'. Recorded using a sennheiser mke300 'shotgun' mic. Cropped in audacity; and saved as aif file. Rustling leaves can also be made out. Feel free to hash it, mash it and trash it. Use it as you wish. A recording made february 24th, 2019 in a residential section of a small midwestern town. . . The stiff north winds are rattling the remaining dry leaves. . . You will also hear the subtle singing of the birds that always greet you in late winter. . . Birds like house sparrows and starlings. From time to time, you'll hear the tinkly, nice sound of some wind-chimes hanging on the front porch of some house. The skittering of dried and old leaves scooting across the ground also makes an appearance. Enjoy this cold late-winter soundscape!. Recording made around 8 in the morning with the fantastic sony pcm d100, using the internal microphones.
