Zoom h4n - onboard microphones. This recording was captured in the city of orange in orange county, california. This is located just below los angeles and less than a mile from disneyland in anaheim. This is an extremely clean recording of a sudden cloudburst that turned in to a torrential downpour on december 28, 2020. The peaks are all very close to 0db. I opened the sliding glass door to our balcony and placed my zoom h4n as close as possible to the rain without destroying the recorder. What resulted is an amazingly layered rain track. This is because rain can be heard striking multiple surfaces such as a tree, a metal table, the cement balcony, etc. . . There is not much thunder (that's rare in this area) but if you need a few dramatic thunder claps they can be found at the following times one the file is downloaded. Chldren were playing in the neighbour when a low lightning activity thunderstorm came to pécel and lasted for 1-2 hours. It produced 10 mm of moderate rain and bright intracloud lightning. Recorded by my sony stereo dictaphone. The storm arrival had a little disaster movie impression for me.

This was recorded while sitting in a closet during a tornado warning as a thunder-storm raged outside the house. It was recorded on april 28, 2020 in tulsa, oklahoma. There are several very low frequency booms from the deep thunder. You can hear the faint sound of tornado sirens blaring outside. There is also the intermittent sound of panicked breathing by one of the two dogs that were also riding out the storm, sheltered in the closet. A thunderbolt rattles some wood hangers on the hanger rod.

A stereo wav recording from a zoom h1n during a thunderstorm today. One siren picks up followed by several more producing a convincing stereo image. I have done a basic bass roll-off, but have left it otherwise untouched. If you have a spectral editor you can probably clean out more of the noise, but i couldn't do so and keep the sirens sounding good.

A great sound that i produced in audacity using the wah wah effect after using white noise. It sounds rather like a windy and stormy wind approaching!.
