It was quite loud, my gain was set extremely low, enough that i didn't pick up any of the road traffic with cars passing a few feet behind me. I created this torture sound for a short film i made. I used a verse 504 labtech mic with a sony mini disc recorder in my garage. I smashed a cantaloupe with a hammer adjusting mic placement until i had the desired volume and sound.

A 3kw electric fan heater switches on, runs for a few seconds, then gets switched off, thus demonstrating my mastery over small electrical appliances. Olympus ls-5, built-in mic capsules, no filtering.

This sound reminds me of a radiohead - kid a sound effect. Could be used for some whoosh, or desolate planet.
