Rain in brittany on a windy winter day. I built this sound by mixing several field recordings made on the same spot: a small wood in the south of the region. These recordings had different focuses: some were more wind-oriented, others had more rain. . . Instead of publishing these individual takes, i chose to mix them in order to create a soundscape that would vary in density, depth and spacing. Recorded with a zoom h2n in x/y stereo mode. Mixed in nuendo 2. Mastered in sound forge 8.

It's just the noise.

This is the first recording in this pack from inside a traditional, working old dutch windmill, called de lelie - the lily - in the picturesque dutch village of eenrum. This mill was used to grind grain. There was a strong northwesterly breeze straight from te sea, so the sails of the windmill were in full swing, this morning on saturday may 14th. The dominant sound you hear is the sound of the so called “schuddebak”, litterally translated as “shaking bin”. This is a device in the form of a large wooden shovel which is tapping against the turning millstone in order to distribute the grain equally along the millstone. On the background you hear the millstone itself. On the second recording in this pack, the millers had detached the schuddebak, so the sound of the millstone is more dominant in that recording. This windmill is now a small museum. Admission is free, so everyone can admire this proud dutch windmill heritage which reclaimed half our country from the sea and gave us our daily bread. Needed a clean punching sound, i couldn't find one so i thought i'd share what i made. I made the sound with my mouth. . . Used audacity to clean the noise and remove my stupid breathing.

Here in the midwest we were treated to a nice preview of autumn here in the northern hemisphere. Both the temperature and humidity were nicely lower than usual and this soundscape was recorded featuring the beautiful northern breezes and a few of the birds that still live here. Since this ambience was recorded during the work-week, there are hardly any man-made internal combustion engine noises. Just the wind lifting and swirling through the tired forest and the blue jays, crows and insects. Recording made at 2:30pm on september 13 2022. Equipment used: recorder-sound devices 702microphones- left channel- sennheiser mkh 416right channel - sennheiser mkh 8070. The right channel, the very low-noise direction shotgun microphone, was pointed just about straight up at the leaves and branches of a huge cottonwood tree whose dry leaves were putting on a show. Hope you can hear this. Recorded and edited in stereo so either good studio monitors or headphones will make you feel you are in the forest surrounded by the gentle breezes swirling through oaks and cottonwood trees and insects and birds.
