Sister Vivian Bullwinkel and sixty five Australian nurses were sunk aboard the HMAS vyner brook evacuating Singapore 1944. The ships lifeboats were straffed by Japanese planes. Twenty one nurses swam ashore to a nearby Island, These were captured by Japanese and fired on with machine guns. Vivian was the only survivor of the Bangka Massacre.
