Once a year, the farmers go in line through the fields and the forest, screaming and whistling, in order to send the sheep to the corner of the field, and take them to the farm for the sheep's shave. They can't see each other but can recognize themselves with their specific screams and keep in line. Street sounds a few hours after a tornado: police/fire rescue radio chatter, voices of college kids chatting and laughing, a far distant generator humming, far-off sirens as well as large equipment beeps and some pattering, tricking rainwater in a downspout.

The day after a tornado in a residential neighborhood, songbirds singing as a loud helicopter passes overhead. Distant beeps of equipment clearing debris. Chirps from a police siren making its way through.

Distant siren from a fire truck which barrels by blaring its horn. A helicopter passes and the siren continues into the distance as the continuous chirp of early summer crickets rises.

If you have a recording device on your person, you get a lot of stuff you'd otherwise miss altogether. This rig helps me get those things too ephemeral to capture with a stereo pair; sounds i would regret not having at all. I keep it on my belt 90% of the time. Just in case.
