My goal has been to open any jar or bottle without assistance. Some of those are screwed on pretty tight, unlike, uhm, me. So i bought one of those squeezy things where you work against a spring, but, my hands are a bit too small to gain the necessary advantage. The alternative? a crush-able exercise ball. The microphones are facing across the street to the el tracks which cross diagonally across the block at this point. The curvature of the tracks causes the squeaking of the wheels. Trains heading into the loop (north) tend to travel more slowly than those heading south. Cars accumulate at the intersection of harrison and wabash to the south (left). Time of recording was 5:41pm. Traffic was heavy and drivers were frequently blowing their horns at each other. A couple of vehicles playing loud music stop at the light. Time of recording was 5:57pm. Weather was warm, in the 80s. Recording details: 2 audio technica at4022s in rycote windshields > sound devices 302 mixer > tascam dr-40 recorder.

This long recording was taken aboard the odoriko super view train from ito city bound for atami. You can hear the conductor's announcements, station arrivals and departures, passenger conversations (in japanese) and, of course, the train itself. The recording is unprocessed and made with a stereo mic pair at a 90 degree incidental angle.
