My first upload to freesound is a thunderstorm recorded in gateshead, uk, next to our open bathroom window. Some lovely thunderclaps and rain. Recorded on a zoom h5. There are also some household sounds swimming around in the background, doors closing, dishes clinking etc; i think you can hear the radio or something very faintly towards the end -- but there's plenty of clean usable thunder and rain in there. Incidentally i often use this type of thing in my long-form instrumental music, produced under the name conelrad. Another recording of rain and thunder, but in some ways a better one. This one is a surprisingly big crack and rumble preceded and followed by a nice sounding rain. I made this by positioning a stereo-matched pair of akg c451b condenser mics in an exaggerated x-y configuration (a wider stereo field) and aiming them out of my open window. The mics went into a universal audio 2-610 preamp, an apogee duet 2, and then ableton at 48khz and 24 bits. I believe i had the mics set flat, and there was no post processing (though i was mightily tempted to upload the much-better-sounding eqed and compressed files) so that you can fine tune it to suit your needs. You'll notice that the loudest parts of the thunder boom clipped the input, but, due to the pleasant and forgiving nature of vacuum tubes, the clipping sounds more compressed than distorted. Feel free to use this sound in any commercial or artistic work! you do not need to credit me.

Recorded on an olympus ls14 with in-ear roland mics sticking my head through my back porch screen door. Very wet, but very worth it!.

The sound of rain falling interspersed with rumbles of thunder at varying volumes. A lovely, rich recording. The audio is raw, so you'll need to amplify it to suit your needs. Rain with thunder.

A heavy summer shower recorded from my window with a zoom h2. There are some background noise (child's voice, but i think no car, can't swear to it though) and two claps of far away thunder. The rain becomes lighter in the last 1'30. Free for any use. I'd be happy to know if you used it :-).

Thunder storm in sacramento, ca at around 1 am.

I believe this was recorded with a sound devices 702 and a neumann rsm 191 stereo shotgun in a concrete stairwell. You can hear the rain hitting the stairs and going down the drain. It's also hitting some junk at the top of the stairs. There are big thunder claps and more distant rumbles.

Moderate rainfall with civil defense (air raid) sirens wailing and rotating and low rumbles of thunder. Recorded about an hour before a major tornado struck the area.

Thunder in suburban melbourne, light rain. A wide variety of different strikes, good for drama, easy to eq for different emphasis. One massive overhead strike about 6:15 in. Xy-coincident stereo mic recording @44k1.

Recorded with a zoom h4n onboard microphones, spur of the moment kind of thing. No checking for an optimal recording position, or levels. I just switched it on, opened the window fully and started recording. The batteries were running on empty so i quickly caught as much as i could.

Afternoon rain, a light rain or drizzle. Recorded with my desktop computer, anhp pavillion with vista and realtek audio. Standard microphone. Since the rain wasnot blowing in the door, i could hangthe mike out the door. Audacity was myplatform, with very little processing. This version was recorded with the default amplitude at o db. There is a little thunder now and then,and birds chirping outside, mostlycatbirds or mockingbirds. At one pointone of my neighbors was outside talking,the conversation is not distinguishable. This recording is just over 37 minutes. Since there was almost no wind or breeze, the rain is easy to hear. Thatis when it falls on the sidewalk.

While staying in the cuyabeno jungle in the amazon basin of ecuador, i took a walk one afternoon into the jungle just as it started to rain. Armed with my minidisk recorder i sat for as long as i could to get this recording.
