Fruit morphology fruit type - achenecetum Fragaria clipart

Strawberry (Fragaria polyfructus). The receptacle as an accessory part, derived from a flower with a septate ovary, free pistils. Each pistil fructifies as a single fruit (dry, indehiscent), the whole derived from a single flower is the polyfruit (fleshy, due to the fleshy receptacle). Pericarp: wall of the fruit, derived from the wall of the ovary. A marcescent style and stigma (which wither but remain in the fruit) are observed. The vascular bundles (yellowish) that innervate the floral parts (the carpels) are marked on the receptacle (red). In the strawberry the sepals of the flower are persistent in the fruit (below, green), also innervated by vascular bundles not drawn. Note that it is not possible to differentiate a polyfruit from an infructescence without observing its development from the flower stage.
