Early spring thunderstorm in north central oklahoma recorded on 05/02/2018 starting at about 9:30 pm cdt. Recorded in the middle of the country by placing a mic outside the man cave window of my house. The storm starts with light rain and some medium distance thunder. At about 4:00 mins the wind starts to pick up and by 5 mins the wind sound drowns out everything else (50-60 mph gusts). By 6:00 mins the wind is fading as the storm front passes. By 9:00 mins it’s just soft rain and occasional thunder. At about 13:00 mins, the thunder starts picking up a bit. At about 17:00 mins it starts raining harder again, with occasional thunder, until the end. A couple of human noises were edited out, and noise reduction was applied.

6-minute clip of a thunderstorm with sweeping rainfall in the grass and trees of my back yard in northern colorado. Sounds of annoyed crows and grackles can be heard periodically in the distance, and the ambient sound of water through the gutters and downspouts is also prevalent. Recorded with a tascam dr-60d and two behringer xm1800s dynamic mics. Post processed with amplification and mid eq boost in audacity.

A long ambient piece recorded during a california drizzle. You can hear a bike pass and then a handful of cars from street level. The rain is continuous but very light. Nonetheless, the piece is very dense.

The recording is slightly edited to prevent it from being too long. The recorder was placed under a picnic area roof, so the water is dripping from that. I think you can almost hear the storm passing from approximately right to left. Recorded using a (slightly wet) zoom h2 in 4 channel surround mode. This ambience was recorded on zoom h6 with msh-6 mid-side stereo mic capsule. Recording was edited and decoded. Mic was positioned right in a frame of an open window so that it won't get flood from a heavy rain and pick up much room reflections. My flat where i recorded from was on 4th floor. There was a busy street 50m far from the apartment building itself, a bit further there was a park. Rain at that night was heavy. Also you can hear several heavy thunder hits of various distance throughout the whole recording. Hope this recording will help to enhance the sound of your next project.
