The recording starts with gentle rain and slow thunder rolling across the sky. The thunder is predominantly in the first half of the recording. The rain increases in intensity in the second half, peaking about three-quarters of the way through. Recorded on a sheltered, outdoor stairway, in a suburban location in south-eastern england, in august 2013; using a zoom h2n recorder set on mid-side stereo, at a 120 degree spread. The original recording was heavily edited, to remove traffic, trains, planes and parakeets(!). Some light, occasional, background traffic noise remains, however.

Stuck my condenser mic out my window during a rain storm and recorded for a few minutes. Recorded at 48khz with a rode nt1-1. High passed around 150hz and compressed a little to bring up the volume.

This sounds as if it were staged by hollywood, but it actually did happen, i swear! birds chirp away to set the scene, but a beefy thunder roll intrudes. Soon after, raindrops begin to fall as if on cue. Theres a little handling noise click in the begining that is easy to crop out if you like. The recording is unedited. At 1:35 i move the mics closer to the deck so you can hear the splashing. At about at 3:10 i you’ll hear a different timbre as i move away from the rain and under an awning. About 3:45 the rain settles down and the birds start chirping again. Hopefully there are some useful segments in here. Recorded with a dead cat on a tascam dr-05 at 48khz 24 bit, then compressed with “lame --preset insane --scale 10” to make up for the low gain i used (i was afraid a thunderclap would engage the limiter). Recorded near a drainpipe, i have no idea what the bass wind sound in the background is. I think it was some sort of exhaust from the basement around, but i don't know why it turned off and on. In any case it makes for a very spooky ambient effect.

I recorded it with an optimus tape deck and an old microphone (the tape i recorded it on was a maxell ur), i then used audacity and the same tape deck to convert it to digital. Recording of wind and rain in a storm in south uk, 28th oct 2013. Wind can be heard blowing through nearby woods and leaves rustling. Dripping of rain from the eves of the house. Mostly white noise hissing with volume rising and falling. Recorded using a canon d550 out the window/door. The files were edited to remove wind when it directly blows on the microphone.

Processed foley recorded on an early 90s handheld recorder, recorded via line in and processed with reverb, delay and slight eqing. It made for some pretty weird and cool effects.
