Cicadas in the evening with local birds virginia.

My 1st recording with my marantz pmd661, with enhanced preamplifiers by oade brothers. I used my two matching stereo samson co2 microphones with the input level on 7. Recording made around 9pm at night on august 1st, 2014 in a small midwestern town. The chorus of cicadas and tree frogs is very steady on this one.

Imagine a warm, damp-humid august evening in the midwest. It's about 8pm and you're in a mowed path which is 10 feet wide. On either side of you, are two fields of tall -- 9 feet --- corn standing like green, thick grassy sentinels. This is where i was when i recorded this hypnotic sound-scape on saturday night august 9th 2014. I made this recording with my marantz pmd661 (modified by oade brothers electronics)in stereo using twin, matched samson co2 microphones mounted on my tripod about 5 feet above the ground. My record volume was 6 1/2.

Sounds of summer. The parrots raid the 'umbrella" tree outside my house. Their cacophony is distracting and exciting. Someone, a few houses over, is mowing their lawn, a fortnightly necessity during the tropical wet, providing another iconic sound to the urban summer.

The ever-present insects are there, but overshadowed by the peepers. 13 seconds in a dog barks off in the distance and the echo is just incredible. 24 seconds into the recording is the classic call of the red-wing blackbird. A recording made in mid june of 2017 near the ohio river from the bank of rosiclare illinois. The main sound is an angry killdeer that was constantly fussing at me for being too close to her nest. You'll also hear a johnboat plowing through the river, the wind through the leaves of a huge sycamore tree and various children, low in the distance, playing on a playground on this perfect 80 degree summer day. Equipment: marantz pmd661 recorder with the audiotechnica bp4025 stereo microphone, yes, a true stereo recording. Enjoy.
