These recordings were made at the annual "tag der sachsen" (saxony fair) in freiberg. Recordings were done on the main market square (obermarkt), where a local radio station had set up a large stage for concerts and other events. Recording was done with a zoom h2, mics at 90° dispersion. This is the early morning after the event, at about 7. 30, stage hands are taking down the rigging, workers are clearing away trash and loading trucks. Standing on the east side of michigan avenue near ontario street, chicago, 7/16/16 at 10:07pm. Lots of passing traffic, squealing brakes, distant voices, distant sirens. A busker in the middle distance is playing his recognizable clarinet licks. Around 3:14 a group of motorcycle riders pass revving their engines. Edited to remove potentially copyright infringing music (captured playing out of passing cars and motorbikes). Recorded with two countryman emw lavaliers in a head-mounted binaural arrangement, into a tascam dr-40 recorder. Processed to remove excessive bass rumble and compensate for eq curve of lavaliers.

This is the soundscape i've recorded in my neighboorhood of cidade tiradentes, a district from são paulo, brazil. We name these events as pancadão (big punch) or fluxo (flow). When a flow occurs, you know that the sound is very high and it invades all surroundings. It happened in april 4, 2021, during our worst period in the the global covid-19 pandemic. Plent of people, vehicles, multiple speakers and so on in a street. I'm writing in the exact moment police came to repress, but in my conclusion only education can solve city problems, not repression, not paliative atitudes. I think this is interesting to share it here, as a cultural manifestation, showing that when the state fails, everyone fails. This is disrespectful at all, but i try to look it as a construction of city. In a country where its president goes for a for a swim at a crowded beach amid 200 thousand pandemic deaths, how can i criticize suburban people?. I'm not conservative, i like the kind of music playing known as"brazilian funk" or "funk carioca", this is our culture, even if i do not participate actively. Night-time wide angle stereo recording of manhattan, as heard from across the east river, the recorder was kindly allowed access to the veranda of the riverview restaurant & lounge in long island city and is facing the manhattan skyline. Some noises of the restaurant can be heard in the background, very subdued, the quiet lapping of the east river can be heard in the foreground, and manhattan bustle and traffic on the fdr drive is in the wide range.
