Recently we purchased a scale from ikea, when we finally got around to using it we realized that it must be off, as i do not weigh 240 lbs. As we did not have a receipt, or the desire to drive 2 hours to return a $10 scale the only course of action left to me was to take the damn thing apart and record its insides. (what else?). I recorded and edited together around 7 and a half minutes of various configurations and performances of me making some sort of repetitive, engine-like sound. I can foresee myself using these sounds for an old-timey engine or car. Recorded with a rode ntg-3 at 96/24.

Sound is a home-made circuit bent walkie talkie fashioned into a sort of opto-theremin. Main fx used to process it: boss xtortion and wattson superfuzz, with various other fx switched on and tweaked in the middle. Very much like a chainsaw in the beginning. . . That or a motorbike. The "reving engine" effect was created by blocking the amount of light going to the photocell (which was ripped out of a furby!).

My wife bought me this cool remote control helicopter for my birthday, so i recorded it flying around the room. At the very end, the blades knick the wall a couple times before it falls to the floor and stops. Attribution is not necessary, but if you use it, i'd love to hear what you did with it. Looking at the spectrogram waveform display of https://freesound. Org/people/ivolipa/sounds/344948/ i noticed a few patterns. Distinct bands of high volume at around ~600hz, ~1200hz, ~1800hz, the fade in volume toward higher frequencies, a ubiquitous noise, and the soft staccato rhythm. Using these facts, i tried to make yet another engine sound with fm-synthesis. Sound forge 7 — to my knowledge — lacking a spectrogram, i've no clue if this was a successful attempt, but it does have a vaguely engine-like sound.
