Insects (i think mostly crickets) make this noise. It sounds so. . . Infernal!, or futuristic (electronic for sure). I recorded this (with my old zoom ii recorder) one summer night in tlacotlapan, at the southern mexican state of veracruz. All this happened for hours inside my hotel room. So you can imagine what kind of night i have. Wonderful memories.

My first recording with the zoom h5. I am beyond impressed with how clear the sound is. If you use it, i'd gladly watch how you use it. No pressure though. Enjoy! :).

First, i thought it was a night-bird but i could not identify it clearly and i never heard an owl shouting like that. Then i understood why when i found on internet a sample exactly like mine. . . Now i know it was a barking roe deer (capreolus capreolus). "when alarmed, it will bark a sound much like a dog" (wikipedia).

On my walk home in south east portland, oregon there was a tree full of crickets. It was about 11 p. M. And a very warm night.

Distressed cicada on the ground clicking or trilling very fast and loudly. The insect had dried and flown, apparently, but for some reason landed in the wrong area in the late afternoon on a very hot day.

This recording was made alongside a camera trap survey while at loagan bunut national park in sarawak, malaysia. It's a quite nice little bit that we didn't expect to ever find a use for, but came across this website and through i would share it. It lasts a good long time with pretty consistent sounds, so best wishes on it's use. I was doing some recording for this project i'm working on, and the right channel on the zoom h4 i was using bugged out, and this is the result. The only processing done was the removal of the left channel.

After clicking on pause, this sound persists in the headphones. . . Don't know why. . . But it sounds interesting.

Cricket making noise at night.

Various layers of things scraping to create a visceral sound bed that evokes creepy crawly things. Created using various wire brushes slowly scraping against different surfaces.

A particular insect, maybe a grasshopper doing this sound which i use as background atoms instead of the typical cricket. Recorded stereo on zoom h4 on board mics, i edited it to remove some of the hiss.

This recording of the soundscape outside my house at night is considerably louder and cleaner than my previous versions. Some traffic sounds can be heard. ---two primo em172 capsules -> zoom h1.
