Stereo recording of a train arriving and departing at aldgate east tube station, and another train departing on the other track. London underground trains have rubber wheels and a characteristic kind of rumble. The doors open and close automatically. Faint tannoy announcement in the background, and a couple of electronic warning tones when the doors open and close. Aldgate east station is huge but has a surprisingly 'dry' and 'dead' acoustic so that it is very quiet when the trains have gone. Recorded on a zoom h2 recorder, front microphones, 90 degree separation. No amplification or equilisation on this sample.

A bell announces a train is coming, quickly followed by the roar of an approaching engine. Many train cars pass in a cacophony of steel wheels and roaring mass, followed by a fade-out.

A train of coal cars led by one diesel engine and pushed by two diesel engines passes right-to-left as it exits the west vivian tunnel in kimball, wv. Recorded with a tascam dr100mi.

This is about 2 minutes total. It is of an approaching long freight train passing about 100 yards away in it's entirety. Train was doing around 45 mph. There are no other background sounds, no traffic, no crossing alarms, no street noise, no airplanes, no people, etc. There are three diesel electric locomotives in the front, then about a mile of freight cars, then one diesel electric locomotive "pushing" from the rear (it almost sounds like a jet engine!). Recorded alongside the tracks in open west texas desert! recorded using a panasonic dvx200 with a rode shotgun mic & deadcat. Audio extracted from the video file.
