Ambience of a night in december. It snowed earlier in the day, with freezing rain after. In this you can hear icy trees crackle as they sway in the wind. A block away, motorists are passing by. Some people yell out. A one-note wind chime is dinging, sometimes another wind chime sounds. Some ice falls, and various other little things happen. . . Here we hear a german public bus approaching a snow-covered stop from the right, stop, and continue shortly thereafter. The engine is a prominent part of the recording. Towards the end, a second public bus passes in front of the mic in the opposite direction before the first one continues to the left towards the next stop.

So there is plenty of room to explore extensively. Marvel at the submerged trees, enjoy the chirping field crickets and quench your thirst at one of the many cafes or restaurants on the edge of this nature reserve. Walking, cycling or on horseback: it's all possible here. With the wind in your hair and the sand in your shoes. You may even come across the sheep herd. The sheep keep the heath short and eat away saplings. This is how they keep the area open. The loonse en drunense duinen still has 270 hectares of shifting sand. That sand creates rather extreme conditions: the soil is dry and nutrient-poor. The difference in temperature between day and night can be as much as 50 degrees celsius. This ensures a unique flora and fauna. The animals and plants have adapted or feel at home in drought, aridity and temperature fluctuations. Sand sedge and various lichens, for example. A huge ice storm moves in to the back woods of north carolina on 01/30/2014. First it snowed. . . And then it sleeted. When all that sleet froze on the surface of the snow, walking in this winter-wonderland produced an amazing sound. So, i put on my boots, grabbed my zoomh4n and set out to record the magic!. This would be very useful as foley fx for walking in any frozen environment. I walked on various surfaces and depths of ice and snow throughout. I tried to leave enough space between steps so that the sounds do not overlap so that they can be cut for editing purposes. Enjoy!. - christopher c. Courter.

Walking through crunchy ice covered snow on a very cold day. I pant in the cold. The snow is not too thick, just a couple inches but it crunches like gravel. It was really cold.
