Recorded on august 22nd 2020 using my sony pcm-10 recorder. An overnight recording going into early morning. A beautiful soundscape of a insect-laden overnight in a small midwest town. Fascinating to contemplate how, while us humans are sleeping soundly, preparing for our next day, nature, is performing this nightly chorus, under cover of darkness. Gentle, drowsy insects gently rocking the world. Washing over the world with the re-birth that night brings.

Wide-range atmo of the little swiss mountain village of breitenfeld. The cows have come down from pasture and are standing at the gated bridge to the village, waiting to be let in to be milked. Recorded with a zoom h2 at 90° dispersion.

A rumble of thunder in a morning of early springtime birds singing and chirping. No sounds of wind or rain.

A hot summers day in the deep swedish forest. Recorded with zoom h5 with two dpa 4060 mounted in a ab stereo fashion. Birds chatting and bugs flying by is major elements in this field recording. Decided not to remove to much of the bugs in post because i felt it might suck out the soul of the recording. In post: in pro tools i removed some low rumble, and and trimmed the highs just a little bit. Added a "pro expander" to lower some noise, both generated by the h5 and the location. Hope you like it.

A semi-rare and priceless recording (at least to me) of a whippoorwill; a bird who, unfortunately, is declining in many areas of the country. This recording contains more hiss than many of my existing nature recordings, but i still want to post it so you can get sample of this wonderful signature sound of summer woods at dusk. Recording made in the shawnee national forest in late may of 2010 using my zoom h4n recorder. I used an audio technica at8035. I was trying out this microphone. This particular microphone does have a narrow acceptance angle, which is probably 1 reason for the hissiness. Still, go out in the summer woods around dusk sometime and maybe you will get lucky and hear this beautiful little bird whose distinctive calls have livened up the woods for generations of many youngsters – including me!.

A piece of music i made in garageband for something called victors crypt. The tune starts out with a bassline, pretty slow. But when the beats come in it's a pretty fast paced piece. Kept things simple and just added some low pitched strings and, voices and some reverbed sounds. It ends in a kind of mysterious and spooky way. Suited for anything dark, spooky, eerie, suspence, thrilling for instance. Think it would work great to a game, youtube-channel or episode, movie or whatever you feel like. This is the song of a beautiful bird called a rufous-sided towhee. A bird usually found in deep woods, or in heavy brush. I was fortunate though to both see and hear this guy as he was perched in a tree at the edge of a heavy forest. Recorded around 6:30 in the morning on a gorgeous spring day on the last day of march 2012. Rode ntg-2 shotgun mic mounted on a sturdy tripod to reduce handling noise. Enjoy!.

Walking through my local woods , on the lizard peninsula, cornwall, mainly birds with loud bees. I had the mic on a selfie stick and was holding it close to the bees, the birds were loud still.

A peaceful, quiet soundscape recorded in the midwest during covid-19. This includes the nice, soft, gentle song of crickets during the midday. Plus, about halfway through, one of my favorite sounds--even though it is man-made, that of a propeller airplane droning on through the bright, breezy saturday. Recording made on saturday may 9th, 2020 at 3pm in the afternoon. It was made in short grass just off of an asphalt trail, running through a beautiful woods at a very popular state park in illinois. Because of the covid-19 shutdown, the background noise of cars was almost nonexistent. Plus, the grass in the picnic area which surrounded the asphalt trail had not been mowed in a while, which added a nice touch of wild to the place. Equipment: sony pcmd100. Enjoy !.

Recording mostly consists of birds and general life from people moving/talking as they arrive to their cabins with family. Its intended to represent a peaceful vibe with some human presence. Sometimes you really need to get away to peace & quiet. This recording, made with my handy zoom h4-n and its built-in stereo microphones, was made in perhaps the quietest time of the morning -- that magical time between 3am and 4:30am when the birds even are still asleep. Made in a backyard of a town of about 7-thousand people.

I was driving past a back burning (bush fire control burn) and pulled over to a quite place. I could hear quite crackling and birds chirping.

The desolate, yet peaceful sound of leaves rushing across asphalt and wind in mid-december of 2016. Far off, in echo-land, wind-chimes add a touch of melancholy. Recorded in a small midwest town at 4:30 in the morning on december 11th, 2016 using the sound-devices 702 and two sennheiser mkh66 microphones. Stereo.

A nice spring soundscape of birds in deep woods. I set my recorder on a sand-bar in the middle of a nice-sized creek, turned on the internal mics on my zoom h4n and just let nature do the talking. Recorded around 11 in the morning on a cloudy 71 degree day.

These are the church bells from the st. Johannes nepomuk church in kehl a. Rhein. It's from a village on the german side of the french city, strasbourg. It was recorded with a tascam pcm recorder 19. 08. 2012.

One of my favorite summer and late-summer sounds. The night-hawk is the star of this recording. This recording was made around 9pm at night in mid-august and, even though i never could see this nighthawk, his calls pierced through the night-sky to let me know he was up there, somewhere, orbiting on the prowl for mosquitos and other insects. I have always loved this sound ever since i was a kid and going to sleep at night i felt comforted knowing that, like some circling fighter jet, the nighthawks would be on the job, plowing down the population of mosquitos, while i slept all night. Recording actually made in the parking lot of a major midwest university around 9pm at night on august 19th, 2014. Equipment: marantz pmd661 modified by oade brothers electronics, beyerdynamic me58 microphone. My record volume was 7.

A peaceful, drowsy-ish recording of a midwestern usa large field bordered by heavy forest. This was recorded in mid summer, on a very hot day. Temperature was 90 degrees, but, with 45% humidity it was manageable. The good thing about this recording is i was far enough away from humanity's engines to get no cars, no boats, no loud. . . . Anything. Well, except the insect chorus. This is the time of year in illinois that autumn is getting imperceptibly closer. The skies are clearer blue with less humidity. . . A few trees had red leaves. Nature taking a breather. Recorded at 2:30pm on thursday august 26, 2022 using a mixpre 6 recorder. Left channel: rode nt5 cardioid microphone. Right channel: sennheiser mkh 416 microphone.

A recording made on easter sunday, april 9, 2023 in the woods of the shawnee forest in illinois. This is a recording in the mid-afternoon of the early spring when a few of the summer birds are in the woods staking claims on their territories. Equipment used: sound devices mixpre-3 series ii. Left channel microphone: sennheiser mkh 8020right channel microphone: sennheiser mkh 8070. Enjoy the peaceful illinois woods as the season of growth begins.

A peaceful medium-sized creek in the midwest. At 41 seconds into the recording, in the left channel you will faintly hear some walkers casually strolling by on this brisk 35 degree day. Then, at 1:45 into the recording, some light bird callsadd to this peaceful recording. Recording made in the shawnee national forest in southern illinois in late december of 2018. Equipment: sony pcm d100.

The pretty, soothing, trilling song of the pine warbler. These callings were recorded on sunday march 30th 2014 in a small pine grove, in the middle of a larger forest. On the day i recorded this, the weather was perfectly sunny, and mild -- temps about 60 degrees -- with very little wind. When i first heard this song, i was instantly reminded of a sewing machine. Enjoy. Recording made with my zoom h4-n field recorder, using a rode ntg-2 shotgun microphone placed on a tripod, about 3 feet above the forest floor. To make sure i got a decent level on this soft call, i did have to crank up the recording volume to about 85 on the scale of 100.

This is a larger stream in the shawnee national forest. At this particular point on the stream had a large log over which the water was flowing gently. . . . Not as much gurgling and popping sounds, just a nice smooth, flowing sound.

The exciting thing about recording and cataloging natural sounds is how you get nice, unexpected surprises. I was up early recently one spring day and did not have any real plans to record, until i stepped outside with my coffee to see what the weather was like and was nicely surprised with the light, steady spring rain that was falling in my yard; during the whole time this energetic carolina wren kept on singing through the rain. I rain, got my recorder and recorded a full hour of this peaceful pattering. You hear the drops hitting the concrete patio, the shingled overhang and a plastic chair. Zoom h4n recorder using the stereo built-in mics.

Just a short ambience track which was meant for a game which was never produced. Made it in magixmusic maker with some buildt in samples.

A dude whistling.

This is a piece i put together using maestro for android. It took me about 90 minutes to do. If you haven't heard of this app, you need to take a look at it if you are a musician. The voices are pretty good in the free version (which i used for this), but i've read that the premium voices are better. Still, some of the free ones are really good. Use this piece as you want, but i would appreciate credit for it if you're going to post the work you do. Please leave comments on anything i've done here.

A recording i made in may of 2013 as i was trying to get a good recording of the wonderful wood thrush recorded. You can still faintly hear the wood thrush in the background, but the nice surprise on this recording is the very clear, bubbling, trilling call of a proud little chipping sparrow. This recording was carefully made using my homemade parabolic reflector microphone. (*using my trusty rode ntg-2), and going into my handy zoom h4n recorder. I wanted to get as accurate a recording as possible so i bumped up the bit rate to 96 kpbs. I know it makes for a larger file, but i think it is worth it.
