This is the sound of an inland vessel on river rhine, near mannheim, germany. You can hear the rhythmic and fluctuating vibrations of the diesel engine. Seems to be an older one. Unfortunately i oriented my zoom h2n wrongly (90° to the right). So most of the noise appears on the left ear.

Class 52 “western” diesel-hydraulic locomotive, d1015 “western champion”, powered by two maybach md655 units (each developing 1,350 bhp). Recorded at cardiff central railway station, south wales, uk, 27 october 2007. Background station noises are also recorded, “western champion” is heard with the maybachs idling whilst the locomotive is at rest. The change in engine pitch is when “western champion” accelerates away from the station pulling a train of eight coaches. After a rain storm, if it's a hot day the mist will rise, particularly in my river valley. There are railroad tracks on the far side of the valley from where i live, about five miles distant. In damp air the sound really carries. This file is unmodified.
