This is a sound of a mercedes benz 709d mini bus driving on a really hard icy road. It was a rattly old bus, everything squeaked and rumbled on it. I videoed this journey with my canon powershot a460 digital camera, i simply took the sound from the video. It's a good sound, it turned out well thanks to the winter weather, and the rough icy road. This sound was made by me, i tied down my canon powershot a460 digital camera inside the engine bay of my 1993 rover 620si, and it's got a petrol honda engine, no turbo on this version. I had my video recording on my camera in the engine bay while i was driving. I started the engine up and took it for a drive. I simply took the sound off the video. Some cafe ambience severely altered with blok modular fx. Was originally a long jam cut up into a bunch of individual files but i figured searching through them would be a pain so i merged them back into one file. So listen through and pick the sounds you like with a wav editor, or enjoy it in its own regard as abstract sound sculpture or something. I don't want to divulge too much of what the patch looked like but it random note values with each keyboard press which were then ran through a waveshaper. Later on i add some reverb and use various things to alter the panning for some strange stereo effects. Edit: you might want to use a dc eliminator on the samples because the waveshaper creates some dc offset (basically useless low/zero frequency noise for those not in the know). This recording was done on a balmy day in early november at the shore of a small lake in southern illinois. Even though it was november, i was in a short-sleeve t-shirt, because of the warm weather that we had been having. However, there was a huge, approaching mass of cold air from canada approaching which resulted in some tremendous, steady winds, gusting up to 40 miles an hour. I literally had my zoom h4n recorder sitting in some sedge-type grasses inches from the lake, which enabled me to get the clear, crisp sound of the wind-driven wages breaking over the small rocks and sticks. Occasionally you will hear a dull roar of the wind, which i was able to decrease a bit using my graphic equalizer, although as you listen to the entire piece you will notice that i just could not eliminate all of the “wind roar”,. Still, i think this is an effective, realistic sound-record of what happens when cold air hits head on with warm air over a lake. Again, this was recorded using the zoom h4n digital audio recorder, using the built-in stereo microphones. Enjoy.

August, 2nd 2013. About eight and a half minutes worth of summer evening ambience, with crickets and cicadas leading the evening songs. Nothing too eventful, but a nice finish to a great day. Recorded at 48khz, 24 bit. Stereo pair of behringer c-2s (cardioid). The mics have an on-board 3-position switch, with labels "flat," "low-cut," and "-10db. " the switch was set in the -10db position (whoops!). It is unclear if this position also activates the low-cut. Additionally, a 24db/oct low-cut applied in pro-tools at 80hz to clean up a slight wind ruffle. Since it was late at night, and the rest of the family was in bed, i opened my window and placed the microphones (almost) right up against the screen. The a/c unit you can hear is directly below the window. Around the 4:45 mark, the digital thermostat hit a programming mark and kicked the air conditioner back on. Roughly one minute later, i adjusted the thermostat to turn the unit back off. Location: suburbs of atlanta. Free to use whenever and wherever! i'd be interested to hear/see where you use it!.

Electro-magnetic interference from a desktop computer, and an at&t; cordless phone handset cl82301 when held near the internal ferrite antenna on the back right of a 13-year-old boombox listening to the am broadcast band. Recorded 2 years ago so i forget where i was listening. Recorded with goldwave from line-in. You hear emi from the computer at first, then i bring the phone on standby near the radio and you hear a series of nearly pure tones. The phone comes on and you hear a distorted dial tone. I move the phone away from the radio for a few seconds and you hear the computer again, then i bring the phone near and you hear a distorted busy signal. I disconnect and the phone continues sending to the base for a few seconds so you just hear a hum, then the idle tones are heard, then the computer noise as i remove the phone.

I videoed this sound of a subway train in glasgow scotland on the famous "clockwork orange" train as they are called. I used my canon powershot a460 digital camera to video this, i simply took the sound from the video. I was lucky enough to get a good run on this with just a few poeple on board, so there wasn't any other sound apart from the train, the only time you here some movement of feet is when the doors open. A stockholm, sweden commuter rail x60 train (alstom coradia nordic) on the then j35 (bålsta - nynäshamn) line arriving at and leaving from the älvsjö station. What i hear in this sound is a crashing starship as you regain consciousness surrounded by chaos of the crew and emergency systems.
