They were sung without drum, bell or rattle, to accent the rhythm, in which these songs is subordinated to tonality and is felt only in the musical phrases. . . . Ok, i don't know how many of you might be interested in this, but i figure there's no harm in posting it. I'm working on some original songs. Laptop-based, electronic songs, with many orchestral parts, including violin, viola, cello, and string bass. Presonus studio one has some very nice vst string instruments, and i have some really great ones for kontakt. But they all are missing one thing, and i couldn't find the (admittedly esoteric) sound that i'm looking for anywhere on the internet. Being a viola player myself, i recorded myself playing these very particular incidental sounds. Let me explain-. There's this 'grabby' sound that a well-rosined bow makes just is it is first being drawn across the string. Listen carefully to any of the pros and you'll hear it. In your laptop sequences, if used subtly, right at the point where the first note of a phrase is initiated, this sound can give the string part a marked sense of realism*. This, combined with vibrato, reverb and a nice warm/tube/tape saturation setting, nobody will be able to tell the difference between your vst and the real thing. About the audio-i tried to keep them as pitchless as possible, thus not limiting their utility. I recorded two sets of all four open strings (c, g, d, a), first close mic'ed, and once from a few feet away, in stereo. Or to say it another way, the sounds are as follows-1. Open c close2. Open g close3. Open d close4. Open a close5. Open c far6. Open g far7. Open d far8. Open a far. It's totally overkill for me to record all the different versions, but i suppose somebody out there might find one more appropriate than another for their purposes. They work pretty effortlessly for violin and viola, but you might have to pitch them down for cello and string bass. I added no processing whatsoever, apart from normalizing each individual sound. Aiff, recorded at 44/16. Nady scm-2090 stereo condenser mic, focusrite saffire pro 24 interface, recorded in logic. Not the quietest room, but these sounds will be so far down in the mix that it won't matter. Free for all to download, no attribution necessary. Http://www. Freesound. See if you can spot the three times i used it. *pro tip- much the same way i'll insert an inhale breath right before horn or oboe phrases.

Other little details like raising one side by 2 decibels to even things out. Also, arranged the rhythm according to a phrase i thought made some more sense, added a couple of variation percs of my own to fill in the gaps. This piece was produced using a text-to-speech program on a "rant" by francis e. Dec. Mr. Dec was a disbarred lawyer from new york state who spent the balance of his adult life writing and publishing rants against a global conspiracy that had removed him from the legal profession, controlled the white house for decades, performed clandestine medical operations on the entire population of earth and worked for a malevolent entity called the "world wide communist gangster computer god". Mr. Dec appears to have hated just about every religious, racial, ethnic, professional and political group that he was aware of. Although i have tried to maintain the syntax and general flow of this rant; i have taken the liberty of removing the more offensive passages and phrases. Since the development and widespread use of anti-psychotic drugs in north america, schizophrenic creativity of this level of complexity has become harder to find. Street ranters are an endangered species but my memories of them include the unusually stiff, declamatory and repetitious cadence of their speeches. Curiously, a speech-to-text program mimics some of these features. I hope that the irony in using a computer voice cuts two ways. Mr. Dec's rants are in the public domain. To his credit he was very open source with his work. My use of dec's writings should not be construed as advocacy for his views nor as an endorsement of how our society currently treats persons labeled as schizophrenic. Ungdoms synden (translates to: the sin of adolescence) is a traditional swedish melody (style: polska) from boda in dalarna sweden. The melody is compsed by röjås jonas, aledgely played to him in his old age, by a fellow fiddler. "who has made that song?" jonas asked. "you did - many years ago" the player replied "that must have been my sin of adolescense" the composer replied. This is just the first phrase of the melody recorded by me. The boda polska rythm is based in 3/4, but somewhat unevenly spaced. Every village in the neighboorhood have their distinct muiscal dialect, in the way of how to play a polska. The boda musical dialect is reputaded throughout scandinavia. Recorded with zoom h4 in my living room copenhagen.

Just joined. Here's my first submission :). Recorded a few samples of "voice horror", a friend and i were going to make a short film but it never panned out. Basically the sound is a "disembodied voice" recorded on some tech that the entity damaged the quality or something. Used several filters and a vocoder. The idea was to vocalize the first parts in a way that it would be hard to understand, having the viewer listen more closely, and build the fear with the audible phrase ". . . And now there's somebody living on the other side of the wall and i think he can see usssss".

I've benefited from freesound in the past so i wanted to give something back. I created this audio sample of the black speech of mordor (a section of the ring poem), as part of a cinematic orchestral lord of the rings piece to add flavour to it and wondered if others might find a use for it in their own projects. The sample does have added reverb but to my ears this is not excessive. The phrase is:-. Ash nazg durbatulûk,ash nazg gimbatul,ash nazg thrakatulûkagh burzum-ishi krimpatul. This translates to:-. One ring to to rule them allone ring to find themone ring to bring them alland in the darkness bind them. No attribution required but it would be nice to know if anybody uses it. ;-).

A small, mechanical music box plays, slows down and stops. Synthesized sound with stereo light reverb effect. Duration 0'52". Three turns of a wooden boxed clockwork mechanical key followed by a bright, nonsensical music box tune. As the tune plays, the tempo slows down - gradually at first but becoming profoundly slower towards the end. Tune ends on a melancholic note mid phrase. Could be used as a standalone effect, or perhaps metaphorically as a cipher for the aging process and cessation of life. The clockwork key effect is a rapidly repeating single mechanical clock tick filtered to sound box-like. The sound of the music box tines was created with ni fm8 using four sinewave oscillators, one of which feeds back on itself to produce a hint of metallic ringing.
