This is about 2 minutes total. It is of an approaching long freight train passing about 100 yards away in it's entirety. Train was doing around 45 mph. There are no other background sounds, no traffic, no crossing alarms, no street noise, no airplanes, no people, etc. There are three diesel electric locomotives in the front, then about a mile of freight cars, then one diesel electric locomotive "pushing" from the rear (it almost sounds like a jet engine!). Recorded alongside the tracks in open west texas desert! recorded using a panasonic dvx200 with a rode shotgun mic & deadcat. Audio extracted from the video file.

Recorded in june 2016 on a hudson yards-bound 7 train in the new york city subway. Towards the end of the recording, at the last stop (34th street–hudson yards), there is mta thank you announcement at the station and for all passengers to alight - i have extracted this announcement as a separate audio download on freesound if that's the sound clip you're interested in!. Recorded with a zoom h2n in 4-channel mode - this is the xy recording only (msg me if you want the raw ms recording!), without a windshield. File has not been modified.

Waiting for and getting on the 20:46 from kings cross st pancras to finsbury park on the evening of 30th october 2020. Recorded on an iphone 8 using voice record app - unedited. Very quiet platform and very quiet trainincludes platform announcement, train arrival, door beeps and open, train announcement, train departure, 5 minutes of train journey (no voices), arrival at finsbury park, doors open. Recording of a passenger train approaching from the right side and then stopping. It was taken on may 30th 2017. Captured from the platform using a zoom h5 handheld recorder and the corresponding stereo xy-capsule. Cuts and minor fades at the beginning and end have been applied using ocenaudio. Recorded on the san francisco side of alcatraz island, 08/25/2015. Recorder was placed on the railing on the back side of the yard above the staircase. A clear day, with plenty of water birds and gulls. Some tourists speaking various languages throughout. . . Some asking about the 'microphone'. This recording also catches the sf noon siren and a sea plane flying toward the end. My windjammer wasn't quite enough for the wind, so there's some rumble, but it can be cleaned up. Recorded with a tascam dr-70d, built in mics. Free to use, but let me know where it ends up!.

In cabin. Train wheels grinding the rails, odd wind howling makes a melody. Water bottles stored under the cabin seats make soft sounds. Recorded with tascam dr-40. I've only used the internet to facilitate human contacts. Being with actual people in actual places has always been the goal. I like it when, in the presence of real people, we don't speak for a while. We just do something that we've agreed to do together in silence. There is an agreement and we don't have to think about who we are, how we can be who we are or what it all means. Doing becomes meaning.

As these are recorded using binaural in-ear mics, i purposefully don't turn my head to keep the sound clean and coming from the same direction. The amtrak pacific surfliner winds it'd way up and down the pacific coast coast. This train is known for spectacular coastal views. Here you can hear this high-speed train come screaming through burbank's downtown station (traffic can be heard on i-5 in the distance). You will hear a security guard walk behind me just before the train comes through. He was one of our trusty transpo officers making sure i wasn't up to no good with my zoomh4n device. . . Inside an intercity express (ice) between stuttgart and mannheim, sitting in an almost empty (three passengers) second-class broad-spaced compartment at around 9 pm. After a shaky first minute an even part follows for around 90 seconds. Interrupted by some road holes the steady sound continues, now with the frequency of the engine sound rising until the beginning of the fourth minute. Here the "main part" begins, starting with several moments of acceleration, deceleracion and breaking. From minute 5:15 to 7:35 the train reaches it's peak velocity, with only few bumps. After a short deceleration the train inceases velocity again, reaching a second peak, this time noticeably bumpier. Once in a while you can hear some element of the fitments rattling nervously along the track, depending on the constitution of the railways and the overall situation. During the last two minutes the train keeps on decelerating slowly and continuously until the end. Recorded in stereo with a portable stereo recorder (zoom); enhanced in audacity using a parallel dynamic eq (tdr nova), a compressor (vos density mkiii) and a binaural spacializer (auburn panagement).
