A long time ago there was an ambient randomizing program called koan. This is a sample of a much longer (or boring or shut it off now) koan run. Koan files can now be run on noatikl bless their little hearts.

Recorded at ableton live, using old tx81z synth from yamaha + boss digital delay dd7 messing around with feedbacks and time creating tape like fx.

Took some foley i had and stretched a few times using ableton's texture setting, with flux parameter turned to zero. Could be good for an experimental song, or a horror film. This sound is in open domain, use it freely without need for retribution or credit.

Made on fl5 back in 2005 for one of my first rap beats. . Used a pluck instrument on fl5 to create this loop. Has a harmony on the second time around on a higher octave.

Sound is a bit of prepared guitar. . . The strings had some "twistie-ties" on them, and they were scraped/bowed with a screw driver near the bridge. Guitar was processed with delay, and i believe maybe some other effects. Sounds, at times, similar to a droning sitar.

Elmo omnigraphic 253af slide projector, similar to a kodak s-av 2000. Turn on, slide change at 10 second intervals, turn off. Recorded on a marantz pmd 661 with a rode nt4, 250 mm above centre rear of projector, angled down at 45º. I needed this sound as part of an audio-visual that mimics a slide show. I chose to record a 10-second change interval (instead of a shorter interval) because that allows me to razor the waveform between changes, and then extend (or reduce) the time between changes. Too short a time interval between slide changes means you'd have to add motor/fan sound between every change.

Got a group of about 8 people to say "hey!" a few times. Layered all the takes, compressed, and added a touch of reverb. I've used this one a bunch in my own songs. Sometimes, to achieve a convincing gang vocal effect, when i don't have a gang, you can sing your line a few times, and then layer this "hey" under each syllable, and you can get a pseudo-gang vocal. Works in a pinch if your mix is dense enough. I'd love if you'd credit joshua scott or rjc studios if you use this sample, but don't sweat it if you don't. Good artists borrow, great artists steal.
