Stereo recording of a train arriving and departing at aldgate east tube station, and another train departing on the other track. London underground trains have rubber wheels and a characteristic kind of rumble. The doors open and close automatically. Faint tannoy announcement in the background, and a couple of electronic warning tones when the doors open and close. Aldgate east station is huge but has a surprisingly 'dry' and 'dead' acoustic so that it is very quiet when the trains have gone. Recorded on a zoom h2 recorder, front microphones, 90 degree separation. No amplification or equilisation on this sample.

A journey from the platform of south woodford, central line, london underground station through to liverpool st where i changed to the circle line to farringdon. Then walked up to street level. Recorded on tuesday 22/9/15.

Frequent tube riders may be familiar with the hum that happens between two stops, (i can't remember which two. ) for a moment, it gets a little too loud and freaks you out (around the 1:40 mark). The rest is just tube ambience. Recorded in stereo on a zoom h4n.

The sound of me walking to my electric car in an underground parking lot, getting in, selecting "drive" and moving away. The stereo microphone was outside the vehicle, 10 metres away. This was recorded in-person with a tascam dr-40 stereo recorder in an underground parking lot. Public domain: i have released this audio file into the public domain.
