This was recorded as foley for a sound design / composition contract i took for a theatre company. We needed a train sound to signify crates of dead soldiers being shipped back from the front lines, to be processed and fed to soldiers holding encampants behind the lines. It was recorded in an arcade adjoining outbuildings of a factory converted to studio and office spaces. I excused myself from rehearsal to catch the recording shortly after learning a woman i'd been seeing for about a year was through with our relationship. I won an award in composition and sound design for the work i did for the play.

I made the recording in the town of denholm in scotland. In the recording you can hear fireworks, firecrackers. You can also hear the sounds of conversations in the crowd, screams of children, the sounds of a burning fire. This is a commercial strip with many ethiopian bar-restaurants, outside of which men gather to smoke and have conversation. I am a film director, and i have asthma. Here is me, a woman in los angeles, shaking up and using my albuterol inhaler. Entire sequence: shaking it up first (which we all do lol), then exhaling all air from my lungs so i can suck in a good amount of medicine, then depressing the trigger and sucking in. First putting butter on billigs, then spreading and turning the liquid on the billigs, then returning the pancakes with a metalic tool. Then start again all the process two other times. A sample from a quick flight that i took with a friend on september 8th, 2015. Audio was recorded with a zoom h5. You can hear the engine start, then we idle on the runway for a bit, and you'll hear us make a proper takeoff at about 13:30. After that it generally sounds the same. You'll hear when i crank the level down after takeoff, but you'll be able to easily compensate for it if you're serious about needing sustained flight noise for a small plane. The plane was a 1964 cessna 172e and were flying around vancouver, bc.

Here in illinois, where we have a mandatory, stay at home order, the sounds of the morning winds and birds seem lonely. . . This was recorded on sunday march 29th, 2020. Usually this time of morning would also feature, people walking and talking on the sidewalk, more car traffic and church bells. . . . Recorded with the zoom f-4 recorder. The microphone was a sennheiser mkh-8060 literally pointed nearly straight up at a budding tulip poplar tree. The dominant feature is the constant river of whooshing wind. . . . . Seemingly underscoring the plight that is upon us.

I use a voltage controlled lfo (vclfo) for this experiment. When i send a trigger to the lfo it resets and start over again. In this example i'm using a sinus wave output. I send the output, the sinus wave, to1 - a sample and hold (s/h) module2 - a quantizer3 - straight to vco. The s/h and the quantizer are triggered at the same time. Even an envelope a generated with the same trigger. All three sounds are controlled by this envelope. First out we have s/h (left)second straight to vco (right)third the quantized (center). As usual its fun to take a real close look at the wave!.

The omnis on my humble dr-05 did a pretty good job capturing the sheer depth of zillions of people blowing stuff up together :-). You’ll hear: people having a party in the distance, a bonfire crackling on the right, a distant train blowing its whistle, and of course a lot of explosions. A couple of the big bangs clipped, but unsurprisingly, it made no audible difference. I reduced to 48khz, 24 bit and normalized to -3. 0 db. It really wakes up when you apply some eq to your liking. But i left it as is for everybody.

A recording of a high school class. Students were working on a sound effects project on computers, but generally allowed to talk as they worked. This is maybe 18 students, with the mic about 10 feet away from the nearest student, mic towards one side of the room, pointed towards the middle. We also have ac on, and an av cart that has a fan on, plus a wall clock, some of which you may not be able to hear over the students. Mic was the zoom h1 set to record a wav file, record level manual, low pass filter engaged, with the quality settings at the highest values. It was then put through audacity to amplify it to the highest allowable levels without distorting, and spit out as a wav.

A gunshot sound effect recorded for a high school production of the musical heathers. It was recorded on a zoom h1 and was made by a theatrical cap gun. I recorded it at a distance of about 5 feet and then again at a distance of about 40 feet from the audience and allowed the sound to reverberate both times. Then i duplicated both and mixed in both original sounds on top of each other, plus each sound pitched down 1 octave and the 40-feet away recording at 2 octaves down, plus the closer recording pitched one octave up. We then added and adjusted reverb in audacity and adjusted the sync of all the clips to be aligned, and adjusted the mix to make it sound as real as possible.

Just having some fun with the 6 inches of snow that we received. The first part of this is me walking/breaking some ice that had formed in a low area and then me walking on snow, which has a frosty glaze on top of it. Idea for a base for a radio bumper. I found another track in which someone had said, "du bist der hörer. Wir sind das radio. " so i recorded myself repeating these sentences, which translate from german into english as, "you are the listener. We are the radio. " i also overlaid it over a track of generated sine waves, one in each channel (l-r), chosen to be discordant (like a radioactive effect). I am the copyright owner and I chose to have it PD for Wikipedia as there were no listening examples.
