A recording made around 7:30pm at night in mid october of 2012 of leaves skittering across an asphalt street, making that unique, crackly sound. You will also hear a train off in the distance which i think adds to the sound-scape of fall. At 1:51 into the recording a car whooshes buy and with it, a cluster of leaves trailing behind it trying in vain to keep up. . . That's always been a wonderful sound sequence for me to hear. A peaceful, droning, relaxing summer soundscape of the midwestern forest. For starters, in the background you hear a river of wind steadily swirling around the oaks, and the maples and the sycamore trees. A blessed northeast wind-friend. The insects take over, and on top of that, a single, solitary bird, i think a flycatcher, softly calls his one-note. Even though this is the time of year that the visitors, those beautiful neo-tropical migrants, fill the woods, after several months of raising of raising a family, they are quiet, resting now. . . Letting the insects signify the passage of time and the slow march to autumn. In about 6 weeks from now, most of our visitors will have left. . . Back down south, their job of raising the next crop of insect-eaters done. . . And the woods, the forest, the nearly-dry creekbed will be packing it in. Recording done on saturday july 29th, 2017 at 11:30am in the forest near a creek with sound devices 702 and a rode ntg-2 shotgun microphone pointed straight up into the trees.

I recording made near some woods of the wind ebbing and flowing on an unusually mild day in late november of 2013. What i find unique about this recording is a lone cricket calling out at various times of this recording. . . Makes for a nice, almost melancholy feeling. It is almost like the cricket is not quite ready to hide away for the winter and is taking advantage of a rare 70-degree november day to call out as if to say "hey, i'm still here, waiting. . . In the grass. ". With headphones on, works wonders in clearing your head. . .
