Recorded at the denver colorado botanic gardens at approximately 8:50pm 2017-08-16, temperature approximately 23'c. I followed the sound of the insects in the gardens to a tree-filled spot and stood stationary to create the binaural recording. An up-close recording of a single cricket chirping. I recorded this with a shure beta 57a microphone, at my house, with the mic a few inches away from one of my housemate's crickets (don't ask). I used cubase and izotope denoise to remove noise artifacts, as well as a low-cut to remove unwanted low freqs. Recorded in mono but exported in stereo, so both the left and right audio channels are the same.

A peaceful, quiet soundscape recorded in the midwest during covid-19. This includes the nice, soft, gentle song of crickets during the midday. Plus, about halfway through, one of my favorite sounds--even though it is man-made, that of a propeller airplane droning on through the bright, breezy saturday. Recording made on saturday may 9th, 2020 at 3pm in the afternoon. It was made in short grass just off of an asphalt trail, running through a beautiful woods at a very popular state park in illinois. Because of the covid-19 shutdown, the background noise of cars was almost nonexistent. Plus, the grass in the picnic area which surrounded the asphalt trail had not been mowed in a while, which added a nice touch of wild to the place. Equipment: sony pcmd100. Enjoy !.

An extra on set caught a cicada and let me record it flapping its wings. I used an at-897 to record this into a 664. It's very close mic-ed.

This is a recording i took in my back yard on the 4th of july 2014. There are the sounds of crickets as neighborhood fireworks being set off faintly in the background sounding almost like a war zone. The house is off a busy street, so there is also some traffic sounds. Neighborhood dogs bark at the fireworks faintly in the background.

Edited to remove as much traffic sound as possible. Eqed with a bass rolloff, a slight boost around 5-8 khz (to hear more crickets), and a cut somewhere around 100-500 hz (to hear less of the traffic).

August, 2nd 2013. About eight and a half minutes worth of summer evening ambience, with crickets and cicadas leading the evening songs. Nothing too eventful, but a nice finish to a great day. Recorded at 48khz, 24 bit. Stereo pair of behringer c-2s (cardioid). The mics have an on-board 3-position switch, with labels "flat," "low-cut," and "-10db. " the switch was set in the -10db position (whoops!). It is unclear if this position also activates the low-cut. Additionally, a 24db/oct low-cut applied in pro-tools at 80hz to clean up a slight wind ruffle. Since it was late at night, and the rest of the family was in bed, i opened my window and placed the microphones (almost) right up against the screen. The a/c unit you can hear is directly below the window. Around the 4:45 mark, the digital thermostat hit a programming mark and kicked the air conditioner back on. Roughly one minute later, i adjusted the thermostat to turn the unit back off. Location: suburbs of atlanta. Free to use whenever and wherever! i'd be interested to hear/see where you use it!.
