I'm attempting to create a controllable thunderstorm for a film, and this is my first legitimate attempt. This recording consists of 4 samples of rain, and another 3 samples of rain+thunder that i recorded one afternoon. Equipment used was the inbuilt mics on a roland r-26, and a sennheiser me66 into a sound devices 702. The clips were recorded at 96khz/24-bit, and they were processed at 48khz/24-bit. For processing, i put the samples into kyma, and crossfaded for texture. The howling wind sound is an analog-style low pass filter's frequency, level, and resonance being controlled by a wacom intuos4 pen/tablet. The rain slowly swells, which was done by changing parameters of a granular reverb. The thunder was also controlled by the wacom tablet, with x, y, and z (pressure) dimensions mapped to making the thunder swell in level, density, and texture. This could have been output in surround, but i don't have that many monitors ;). This style of "rain-synthesis" can also go on indefinitely. Please let me know what you think of the quality of this track; eg, if it sounds real, if the wind sounds ridiculous, too much thunder, etc. Use this sound (wherever) if you want to, or let me know if you'd like an mp3 of this, or for it to last longer. This is a mixture of thunderclaps that i compiled in audacity to create a loud and continuous thunderstorm sound. This sound mix is for anyone looking for a severe thunderstorm sound.

Ambisonic test recording made with a sennheiser ambeo mic into a sound devices mixpre 6 ii. Recorded in 32bit float. Mic position was 'endfire'. Not too much action but it gives a good idea of how a quiet ambiences sound in ambisonic. You will need the sennheiser ambeo plugin in order to convert this recording into b-format.

Recorded in ny at 4:20 pm with a sound devices mix pre-3 and an audio-technica bp4025 microphone (with a rode blimp windshield). One hour and 14 minutes of rain, howling thunder, and an occasional bird. The file was edited and lengthened using goldwave and audacity.

This caught my attention as an unfamiliar sound, and i actually had to investigate to learn what it was. It was the raindrops hitting some styrofoam bodyboards near a swimming pool, which at times sounded almost more like a hollow "pop" than a "drip. ". In the background one can hear thunder, rain, and the humming of a pool filtration system. Recorded with an iphone 7.

Rain falling on my apartment. I´m the last floor and have ceiling windows. I move around the apartment getting different versions. Midway you can hear light music in the background. I also open the window near the end and you can hear a few thunders. Lluvia cayendo sobre mi apartamento. Soy el último piso y tengo ventanas en el techo. A lo largo del audio me muevo a través del apt buscando diferentes versiones. En la segunda mitad es posible escuchar música suave de fondo. A recording i made using my 3dio binaural microphones (and zoomh1 as the recorder). Set up the tripod near the door to my balcony. You can hear the wind against the house, rattling a little in some places. Rain comes and goes, against the glass door. Some cars can be heard outside, on the wet concrete. Recorded on thursday, 24th of february in noord-holland, the netherlands. Feel free to use this for any project you might have, and a mention is always appreciated.
