This is a short file recorded in the ne suburban area of mpls. , mn. It is what the pond in our back yard sounds like after dark in may. Recorded with the built in mics of a marantz pmd660 at a distance of 30 yards from my deck.

Well, the pond area still had a layer of ice on it, but the birds were getting chatty anyways. Spring may eventually crack around here…. You can hear a freeway in the background, just pretend it's a river, m'kay?. Recorded march 20, 2014 near chicago. An ambient recording in may 2022 of a farm in rhinebeck, upstate new york. I wish i could name the animals that can be heard on here, there are all manner of frogs and birds in the area (blue jays, mockingbirds etc) alas i am not a native. There is a continuous whine throughout the recording which is a distant water pump - i suspect that, if desirable the frequency could be excluded with a bit of parametric eq.

I found this fairly small low area, in deep woods, with about 5 inches of water in it. I wouldn't really say it is a pond because it will probably be dry in a month or so after the spring rains. (i think ecologists would call this small body of water an "ephemeral" pond). These spring peepers were putting on quite a chorus as the sun was going down. You'll hear a different sounding frog - or peeper - several times in: at 9 seconds in, 13 seconds in and 15 seconds in. When i first heard it, it sounded like a creaky door! hope you find this fascinating and enjoyable as well. Would make a great soundtrack for a swampy piece. Recorded using my trusty rode ntg-2 going into a zoom h4n recorder.
