A peaceful, droning, relaxing summer soundscape of the midwestern forest. For starters, in the background you hear a river of wind steadily swirling around the oaks, and the maples and the sycamore trees. A blessed northeast wind-friend. The insects take over, and on top of that, a single, solitary bird, i think a flycatcher, softly calls his one-note. Even though this is the time of year that the visitors, those beautiful neo-tropical migrants, fill the woods, after several months of raising of raising a family, they are quiet, resting now. . . Letting the insects signify the passage of time and the slow march to autumn. In about 6 weeks from now, most of our visitors will have left. . . Back down south, their job of raising the next crop of insect-eaters done. . . And the woods, the forest, the nearly-dry creekbed will be packing it in. Recording done on saturday july 29th, 2017 at 11:30am in the forest near a creek with sound devices 702 and a rode ntg-2 shotgun microphone pointed straight up into the trees.

A single long happy contented sigh of a man aged between 30 and 45. Imagine he's sliding into a hot bath. Or taking a sip from a well deserved cup of coffee. He's a very happy man. Recorded at home on a rode nta1 mic using adobe audition cs6 on a pc. The voice is my own, the only edit was a cleaning of bg noise on the record and a trim to remove extraneous sound.

Recorded about 5:00 in the morning in the backyard of a small town using my zoom h4n recorder and the internal microphones. For this recording i used the highest bit-rate possible -- 96 kbps ---- to get the best quality. .

A sunny spring evening as heard from the balcony of my apartment, looking onto the yard adjacent to several other buildings. People are coming home, children are playing, swallows flying. A car starts and drives away.

A summer field near a big lake in july, at dusk using zoom h4n recorder with built-in stereo mics. You can hear a quick fly buzz at 33 seconds in. You will also hear a boat in the distance towards the end. Great to enjoy with good headphones on.

A recording made around 7:30pm at night in mid october of 2012 of leaves skittering across an asphalt street, making that unique, crackly sound. You will also hear a train off in the distance which i think adds to the sound-scape of fall. At 1:51 into the recording a car whooshes buy and with it, a cluster of leaves trailing behind it trying in vain to keep up. . . That's always been a wonderful sound sequence for me to hear. Night-time wide angle stereo recording of manhattan, as heard from across the east river, the recorder was kindly allowed access to the veranda of the riverview restaurant & lounge in long island city and is facing the manhattan skyline. Some noises of the restaurant can be heard in the background, very subdued, the quiet lapping of the east river can be heard in the foreground, and manhattan bustle and traffic on the fdr drive is in the wide range. Recorded in march 2012 with a zoom h2, mics set to 90° dispersion.

I recording made near some woods of the wind ebbing and flowing on an unusually mild day in late november of 2013. What i find unique about this recording is a lone cricket calling out at various times of this recording. . . Makes for a nice, almost melancholy feeling. It is almost like the cricket is not quite ready to hide away for the winter and is taking advantage of a rare 70-degree november day to call out as if to say "hey, i'm still here, waiting. . . In the grass. ". With headphones on, works wonders in clearing your head. . .
