This is a short extract from a sound installation 'the ocean misses a beat' commissioned for a festival in plymouth, uk and subsequently presented in chester as part of the 'up the wall' festival. It features recordings of the sea i made at heybrook bay in devon.

I was out on the marsh edge when i could hear a strange noise in the dark. It turned out to be ice breaking up in the tidal flow. A great test for the new pair of em172 mics. In the parabolic, olympus ls-5 recorder.

This was a recording i made on a zoom h2 of a cat's purr, ran thru several filters until i had what i wanted, a repeating, ordered, police like siren underwater. Recorded at the highest wav settings on my h2, so it should be decent enough. (chirping sound heard on freesound disappears on full downloaded version. ).

A typical summer soundscape on the bank of the ohio river in southern illinois. The low, drone of a huge barge can been heard. Also, the higher-frequency insects are also heard from time to time. A sink had some water pressure issues. When the valve opens all the way it would make this sound.

This is a machine i recorded from a lab that designs water meters, and other water movement equipment. It actually has nothing to do with breathing, but we joked that it had a vader like quality to it. Enjoy!.
