Oceanic-continental convergence resulting in subduction and volcanic arcs illustrates one effect of plate tectonics. Active Margin is a zone where tectonic plates either converge with, or shear past, one another. These zones are usually the focus of plate collision, transpression, accretion, subduction, volcanism, orogenic activity, high seismicity, and earthquakes.
