This is one of the very few canarian permanent waterfalls. It is located in los tilos forest, a biosphere reserve within las nieves natural park in la palma (canary islands, spain). It's about 25 meters tall and flows into a gorge covered by a thick laurel forest (laurisilva), a tropical ecosystem full of trees and ferns resembling jurassic park. So i recently got a new portable recorder (sony pcm-d100). Early one spring morning, i could hear a woodpecker crystal clear from inside my room, with my noise canceling headphones still snug on my head. So naturally, i did a lil ambient recording. Since it was spring, the rich chorus of birdsongs made it, in my book, a freesound-worthy file. I didn't process this very much, except wrapping it around near the end so it could seamlessly loop back, and eqing it to bring out the birds more and soften the mic-noise. In case you're curious, it's a pileated woodpecker!.

This ambience is a bit more earth-like compared to its predecessor, though any sound used here is either created from scratch or recorded: i used my own voice for the "bird" sounds and a crickets chirping recording for some background noise. Aside from myself and the crickets, no other animal was recorded to create this sound, so i think it's fair to define it as "alien". Inspired by the sounds heard in black mesa's version of xen, i decided to try creating a similar soundscape.
