This recording of crickets was captured in my garage in early morning. The chirping is a constant repetitive pattern with just a few temporary pauses. The recording could easily pass as cricket sounds in the open outdoors.

Last night i took out my handy-dandy little tascam dr-07 and recorded the irritating bark of the dog next door. There are crickets and, occasionally, another more distant dog that is heard.

A hillside above the croatian coastal town of brela, in the afternoon, featuring crickets, some quiet background traffic, and nothing much more. These recordings were done during my recent vacation in brela, croatia, with a zoom h2 set at 90° diffusion. I made this wonderful recording in july 2011 at about 9:00 at night on a hot, muggy july evening. This is the time of year when the insect chorus can get very, very loud. Pretty amazing volume for such small insects. The really loud ones seem to reside in the trees and not on the ground. Recorder used: zoom h4n recorder using its built-in stereo microphones.

By mid-september a lot of the migrant songbirds have left southern illinois, along with their songs. But, the insects and their choruses abound. This recording made on september 21st, 2012, in a clearing surrounded by heavy forest. Equipment: zoom h4n recorder and the microphone was the rode ntg-2 shotgun microphone.
