This is the sound of a single cicada that i found resting in my outdoors furniture. I picked it up and it started making this sound. I used a zoom h6 field recorded with a xy mic.

An insect i'm pretty sure was a bee was curious about a newspaper so i dropped my zoom h1n nearby and it took an interest. A fairly loud bird was chirping nearby.

Birds in the woods, at some point a fly arrives. All recorded on the island of mancera in southern chile.

This recording was made in the path of totality of the august 21st 2017 eclipse, in the woods surrounding devil's kitchen lake in southern illinois. It's a stereo extract from a longer, 88 minute b format recording. The purpose of making the recording was to see how the eclipse affected the sounds produced by insects and birds. In this extract, totality occurs exactly 10:00 minutes in; and ends at exactly 12:38. This mirrors the time totality occurred at devil's kitchen lake: from 1:20:27pm to 1:23:05pm central time. Recorded january 2013 at a beutiful pink salt lake in western australia.

This sound was recorded via the use of a behringer b2 microphone, fostex fr2 and a home made parabolic reflector made from a tv satellite dish. The source of the sound was between 100m-200m away from the microphone. This has been eq'ed with high-end shelving to reduce gain noise, low-end shelved up to 1khz (to reduce wind and background noise) and the overall gain has been increased.
