Rode nt4 microphone compare signal-noise of phantom and battery power. Nt4, together with small electrical clock, in bed under all the pillows of the house. ;-). First 48v phantom-powersecond 9 v battery-power. Gear chain: rode nt4 with original xlr cord > sound devices 302 >tascam dr-100 mk2. My conclusion: the battery powered mic nt4 is 0. 5db more quiet. This is my wind entry for the competition. It's derived from some recorded voice and putting a microphone in various containers while the wind was blowing. I was able to get some interesting sounds from this, then i used some mutation effects, convolution, and phase vocoding to combine the voice and the wind sounds into this short piece.
