This recording was taken from the balcony of an apartment in johor bahru malaysia on september 30th 2022 at about 1:30pm. It was monsoon season but not raining and the weather was hazy and muggy. The recording features the drone of a busy city punctuated by a whippersnipper, a building site, birds, a light aeroplane and car horns. At around the 4:30 mark there's two loud motorcycles that race each other and echo around the city in a most glorious way. The recording was made with the inbuilt stereo microphones of a zoom h5 portable recorder.

This recording was made in the path of totality of the august 21st 2017 eclipse, in the woods surrounding devil's kitchen lake in southern illinois. It's a stereo extract from a longer, 88 minute b format recording. The purpose of making the recording was to see how the eclipse affected the sounds produced by insects and birds. In this extract, totality occurs exactly 10:00 minutes in; and ends at exactly 12:38. This mirrors the time totality occurred at devil's kitchen lake: from 1:20:27pm to 1:23:05pm central time. The high desert (6-thousand feet) of northern arizona, near flagstaff. Walking at midday with the sandy gravel and dry, stunted vegetation crunching. You will also hear the many locusts which seem to be present by the thousands in place. Big blue sky all around, and nothing but the steps, and the crunching of the ancient land. Recorded on october 17th, 2017 near flagstaff arizona. Equipment used: sony pcm-m10 using built-in stereo microphones. The gain on my recorder was at 6.
