A bell announces a train is coming, quickly followed by the roar of an approaching engine. Many train cars pass in a cacophony of steel wheels and roaring mass, followed by a fade-out.

Recorded with an h2, no modifications. A diesel engine idling on the tracks. I heard the many rhythms in the mechanism and just had to capture.

A train of coal cars led by one diesel engine and pushed by two diesel engines passes right-to-left as it exits the west vivian tunnel in kimball, wv. Recorded with a tascam dr100mi.

This recording was done at "u-bahn buckhorn" in hamburg at night by axel s. And me with a zoom h2n.

A complete trip on métro (subway) line 9 of the paris subway system, from the alma-marceau station to the havre-caumartin station. Starts with descent into the métro station and ends climbing up the steps back out at the destination. One train is allowed to pass, at about the 1-minute mark, as we wait on the platform, and an announcement giving the times for the next trains can be heard. The ride on the following train begins at around the 2-minute mark. There are two loud sounds between about 9:10 and 9:20 and some loud low-frequency wind noise at around 10:40 (as we leave the métro station and return outside), so beware. Recording with zoom h4n, originally 96 khz/24 bits, uploaded as mp3 320 kbps because the wav was so big (almost 500 mb).

This is a digitally synthesized version of the sound produced by current choppers on board the "jeumont element 041/042 train" used in the montreal metro. It is a five-note sequence of tones (90 hz, 120 hz, 180 hz, 240 hz, 360 hz) produced as the train accelerates out of the station. I could not make a recording of the actual jeumont train as the train was scrapped in 2018, which was before i even made my account!.

This is the arrival of the class 40 locomotive into bury station on the east lancashire railway. The sound was recorded from bury south signal box as the train rounded the curve into bury bolton st station. This was recorded on the h4n. The date of the recording was 12th january 2013.
