This series is done through layering and processing many samples of drum sounds i synthesised using various plugins namely xoxo's vst's and zynaddsubfx mixed with some old hardware samples i made a long time ago. There are 4 packs of the same series : perc snare kick and hats all using the same process.

I captured this excited pileated woodpecker on the edge of some deep woods, on a hot dusk in august 2010. It was about 7:30 on a calm night at the edge of the shawnee national forest. The tempurature was 85 degrees. What i find really enjoyable though is the rising, and ebbing and flowing of, i believe the typical summer cicadas. Recorded using my zoom h4n recorder using the internal buil-in microphones.

While i was in math class taking a test i just decided to record. Near 4:38 you can hear a bell ringing, just a heads up for anyone who doesn't want a interrupting bell. It's can be rather useful for a animations where the character is surrounded by classmates taking a test or whatever. You can use it for anything it doesn't matter to me.

A collection of sounds of a magazine flipping through its pages and a heavy book slamming shut. Recorded using a blue yeti microphone at 16-bit 44100hz in audacity. Used audacity's noise removal filter to to remove background noise. For this file, i isolated the samples i liked and left a small gap of silence between them for separation later. I took this sample from a phone message. I did use a live feed,(from the headset output on my phone, through a cable into my digital recorder. ) but it is very soft. When i tried recording with out the live feed, i couldn't even find the noise again. It could definitely use to be amped up a bit.

This is a break i made to layer over my breaks at 102bpm. It was created in free tracker jeskola buzz using vst instrument, alchemy, multiloop2-move knob 1. This is not a looped sample from the instrument, i created it using the tracker, then applied an ohm boys delay effect. Sounds great over the breaks at 102. Enjoy :).

I have a lot of old hard drives, some of which are still working and others are damaged. My project is collect the sounds produced during start-up. To do this i use a digital recorder zoom h4n using the two incorporated microphones and two 'diy'ed contact microphones additionally. I think this sounds a bit like a jazz age theme reflecting a journey by steam ship. It was bolted together from little loopable sections (also uploaded separately here) which were all created using edirol orchestral samples and the magic of arpeggiating programs. Authentic expression of chinese traditional instruments is hard to imitate so this scene is very short, but useful. This is a snippet of a lesson i had with my incredible undergrad professor where we talk about a piece i was writing for bowed piano ensemble. He was incredibly influential on my creative process and as students we would regularly use his voice in electronic pieces by stealth recording his lectures. It only felt right to use one of these snippets for this project since it brings back so many great memories.
