Recorded from my balcony. This is in a relatively quiet neighborhood. The loud tapping noise is the raindrops falling on the plastic shade of my balcony.

Mono recording with rode nt1000. It's done indoors, by the window, with the window open, pointing outside. In the first plane you'll have birds (portugal), then mild rain and some far away thunder. Some thunders are closer, pretty clear and loud. Be ware for some of my movement sounds, you may need to edit.

Recorded on a late summer day at dusk. Free to use however you wish. No credit necessary.

I recorded this rainstorm with thunder in june 2021 in grimbergen belgium. The rain fell straight down with little or no wind, accompanied by subtle rumbling in the clouds with the occasional louder thunder discharge. Hope you like it. Use it freely.

Soft rain on an open roof window recorded from the inside. There's a suburban hum and ambiance with a few birds chatting and some thunder in the distance. Recorded in stereo with tascam dr-100 internal mics. Subtle compression and some eq was applied. 48 khz | 24 bit.

Spring thunderstorms with moderate rain recorded in countryside. Some cars will occasionally pass.

Caught a heavy downpour while at home and figured i'd capture it for posterity. The recording features rumbling thunder, an ambulance in the distance and a piston airplane flying over. The storm gradually drops in intensity.

~20 seconds of decaying thunder and rain. ~10 seconds of rain sound before and after.

Thunder storm: this is a very accurate and realistic thunder storm. The great clashes of thunder can be heard accompanied buy the rumbling of the storm. Wind blowing and swooshing paints a beautiful picture. The sharp lightning strikes are very prominent. Recorded with the zoom h6, rode ntg. This is a great ambience to create the basis of an amazing soundscape.

This sounds as if it were staged by hollywood, but it actually did happen, i swear! birds chirp away to set the scene, but a beefy thunder roll intrudes. Soon after, raindrops begin to fall as if on cue. Theres a little handling noise click in the begining that is easy to crop out if you like. The recording is unedited. At 1:35 i move the mics closer to the deck so you can hear the splashing. At about at 3:10 i you’ll hear a different timbre as i move away from the rain and under an awning. About 3:45 the rain settles down and the birds start chirping again. Hopefully there are some useful segments in here. Recorded with a dead cat on a tascam dr-05 at 48khz 24 bit, then compressed with “lame --preset insane --scale 10” to make up for the low gain i used (i was afraid a thunderclap would engage the limiter). I created this thunderstorm on logic from some of my recordings.

Recording in woodbridge, va during a rainy day in may 2016. You hear rain gently falling, cars passing by in the rain and the distant rumbling of thunder.

This clip was made because i was looking for a strong thunderstorm sound effect for a school play. I wasn't able to find one that was strong enough for what i wanted, so this. Mp3 was made in audacity from three other audio files from freesound - they are #s 27247, 2521, and 87472. This information is also in the 'comment' metadata of the mp3 file. As far as i can tell, this is the "strongest" storm available on freesound as of early february 2010. (i could be wrong of course!). If there is interest, i can upload an uncompressed aif of the audacity track (it'll take awhile) but i figured there was no point since 2/3rds of the files used were originally mp3's from here. Hope this helps someone looking for a long, strong storm with high winds, loud rain, and many thunderbolts! (the thunderbolts are duplicated throughout the file; the original file contained a much more natural and less angry storm).

It annoyed me i couldn't find this atmosphere anywhere here, so i decided to build this for you: remember the classic "thunder rolls then a wolf howls" sound bed used on so many kids' shows back in the 1970's? well, here you go! this is uses the classic thunderclap by a freesound user whose name i can't remember but will ad when i do remember, some more classic moaning wind by me, a retro wolf howl performed by yours truly with added reverb on top. Use freely and enjoy.
