I'm attempting to create a controllable thunderstorm for a film, and this is my first legitimate attempt. This recording consists of 4 samples of rain, and another 3 samples of rain+thunder that i recorded one afternoon. Equipment used was the inbuilt mics on a roland r-26, and a sennheiser me66 into a sound devices 702. The clips were recorded at 96khz/24-bit, and they were processed at 48khz/24-bit. For processing, i put the samples into kyma, and crossfaded for texture. The howling wind sound is an analog-style low pass filter's frequency, level, and resonance being controlled by a wacom intuos4 pen/tablet. The rain slowly swells, which was done by changing parameters of a granular reverb. The thunder was also controlled by the wacom tablet, with x, y, and z (pressure) dimensions mapped to making the thunder swell in level, density, and texture. This could have been output in surround, but i don't have that many monitors ;). This style of "rain-synthesis" can also go on indefinitely. Please let me know what you think of the quality of this track; eg, if it sounds real, if the wind sounds ridiculous, too much thunder, etc. Use this sound (wherever) if you want to, or let me know if you'd like an mp3 of this, or for it to last longer. Several thunders with light rain.

Big lightning happening in my hometown the evening of may 24th 2020. Went outside with a tascam dr-05 handheld recorded to try and get some thunderclaps, but unfortunately the rain and lightning were more prevalent than the thunder. Here and there i comment to myself about a particularly big flash, hoping it results in a big boom, but there aren't as many booms as i was hoping to capture in the time i had the recorder switched on.

Distant dry thunder, wind, starts to rain becomes heavy wash then stops. Neumann kmr82i and at2050 in mid/side. Toronto.

5th of august 2015 distant thunderstorm thunder sounds in pécel, hungary, recorded by sony stereo dictaphone. It produced insignificant amount of rain.

A close "superbolt" lightning strike that knocked out power on the 6th of october 2014.

A heavy thunderstorm, mid-afternoon, after a long heatwave. The third and last lightening strike was about 100 meters from the microphone. You can just about hear the click (impulse response) of air being ionized just before the thunder.

Heavy rain i recorded from my bedroom window. Besides the rain, you also hear the water dripping from the roof. There's one loud thunder in it, and a handful of farther, quieter ones. Recorded using an audio-technica atr2500-usb microphone.

It was raining today and i heard the frogs, decided to record some ambience. So it's just the rain on the street outside my house with the occasional gray tree frog mating call going on too. Recorded on a tascam dr-05 and highpassed at 50hz to clean up some of the rumble. Show me what you make with it in the comments!.

This is a field recording, done using a zoom h6 with attached stereo mic. The limiter (general type) was activated on the channel. This is the raw recording without any eq or dynamics added. A quick normalization gave a nice, rich signal that you might be able to use for any purpose. Apply a low pass filter to cut out the rain. Well, enjoy. :). More of this will be uploaded.
