Up until this day, the weather here in the midwest had been your typical high-heat high-humidity. But, the day before this field-recording was made the wonderful jet-stream had dropped down on us, a cool, mass of less-humid canadian air, making the leaves sing through the trees with the lifting of the northwest breezes. A gentle tinkling wind-chime can be heard from 1:05 to 1:20. Recording made in stereo with marantz pmd661 and two sennheiser me66 microphones mounted on tripods about 4 feet off the ground.

Rain hitting the vines, thunders, village sounds, crickets, occasional cars passing on the road, far thunders with no rain, dogs barking, roosters, all in one unedited take. This recording, unlike my previous insect recordings, was taken in an actual forrest on south mountain reservation, millburn nj (as opposed to my backyard). There is a distant airplane in the background (south mountain is near newark airport) but otherwise its much cleaner than my previous recordings, pretty much isolating the patch of crickets. ---two primo em172 capsules -> zoom h1.

I recording made near some woods of the wind ebbing and flowing on an unusually mild day in late november of 2013. What i find unique about this recording is a lone cricket calling out at various times of this recording. . . Makes for a nice, almost melancholy feeling. It is almost like the cricket is not quite ready to hide away for the winter and is taking advantage of a rare 70-degree november day to call out as if to say "hey, i'm still here, waiting. . . In the grass. ". With headphones on, works wonders in clearing your head. . . Recording made at 6:30 at night with my handy / zoom h4 n recorder using the internal microphones, and of course using a very very stout wind screen. Enjoy.
