This is a short extract from a sound installation 'the ocean misses a beat' commissioned for a festival in plymouth, uk and subsequently presented in chester as part of the 'up the wall' festival. It features recordings of the sea i made at heybrook bay in devon.
A field recording from winchelsea beach from 17-06-2019. . Recorded late in the evening, around 8pm. There is mostly wave noises and general ambience with some seagull calls in the background. Recorded on zoom h4n pro with rycote wind baffle.
Waves coming onto the shore at dunwich in suffolk, uk. This is the north sea. There are people (and a dog) on the beach. The beach is a mixture of sand and stone, with stones being piled up further from the sea and soft sand with some stones at the edge of the water. The movement of stones can be heard, as can a young child and others. This was recorded with a sennheiser me66/k6 attached to a zoom h5. No editing.

I'm not a sound pro. These sea sounds are recorded with a simple smartphone and exported as wav files. If you do not want the wind noise on the microphone, it is stereo so you can remove the "windy" track if you do not want it. All free to use, no credit required. Stereo recording of waves on a sandy beach, recorded from the shelter provided by some rocks, with a faint engine hum from a large ship in the far background. Tide was about one hour after turn and coming in. Recorded across an estuary. Average level about -18db. Recorded using h2 zoom with front microphones (90 degree). 6db of amplification in audacity.
