This is the ambience of an early summer afternoon near a riverbank here in honolulu, hawaii. I recorded it via my lenovo laptop's built-in microphone.

An enjoyable trip back to my childhood. . . Way before cell phones and the internet. Summers were enjoyed walking on the gravel alleys looking at the beautiful, mature trees in my own little corner of the neighborhood. Does this return you to your childhood?. A nice capture of those beautiful chimney swifts twittering above -- a true signature of summer -- occurs at 38 seconds in, then again at 2:24. The typical hum of central air conditioning units is ever present throughout. From 2:11 to 2:27 i stop and you can hear the hum of these units getting louder. At 2:44 a dog barks in the distance. Then, at 4:16 i leave the gravel alley and start walking on the grass, the, at 5:06, up the big, concrete front steps. Recorded at 7:45pm on the evening of wednesday june 12th 2019. A cockoo and some other birds early one summer morning in a forest in finland.

A recording made in july around 7:00 at night near a huge man-made lake. The ever-present insects are there, but overshadowed by the peepers. 13 seconds in a dog barks off in the distance and the echo is just incredible. 24 seconds into the recording is the classic call of the red-wing blackbird. Made with samson c0-2 stereo microphones feeding a zoom h4n recorder.

A drowsy, warm lazy hot day in mid-summer in the forest of the midwestern usa. As is the case around mid-july, the birds are not singing as much. Perhaps they are just exhausted from raising a family and wilting from the heat. The insect chorus ebbs and flows, like the ocean waves creeping up on the beach, and retreating back. Except, unlike the ocean which never stops moving, the insects will eventually stop singing and hibernate for the winter. I have always loved the sound of propeller-driven planes and their slow, molasses-like sound. That sound has always induced a melancholy touch to the recordings. To me, this drowsing plane symbolizes change -- even though the birds and plants are still in full growth, the end is near. . . In about four more weeks schools will resume, the emphasis for many will turn inward. Leaving the woods to deal with the transition. The droning plane, like ocean waves, symbolize change. . . In several months there woods will be drastically changed. Recording made on july 18, 2022 using sound devices mixpre 6 and the sennheiser mkh 8020 omnidirectional microphone. Enjoy this peaceful ambiance, and hopefully it will trigger some long-past memories for you.

Sounds of summer. The parrots raid the 'umbrella" tree outside my house. Their cacophony is distracting and exciting. Someone, a few houses over, is mowing their lawn, a fortnightly necessity during the tropical wet, providing another iconic sound to the urban summer.

A recording made in mid june of 2017 near the ohio river from the bank of rosiclare illinois. The main sound is an angry killdeer that was constantly fussing at me for being too close to her nest. You'll also hear a johnboat plowing through the river, the wind through the leaves of a huge sycamore tree and various children, low in the distance, playing on a playground on this perfect 80 degree summer day. Equipment: marantz pmd661 recorder with the audiotechnica bp4025 stereo microphone, yes, a true stereo recording. Enjoy.
