Ονόματα χρωμάτων

Η πρώτη καταγεγραμμένη χρήση του ρωσικού πράσινου ως ονομασία χρώματος στα αγγλικά έγινε τη δεκαετία του 1830 (ακριβές έτος αβέβαιο). Ο όρος φαίνεται να αναφέρεται στη μεσαία απόχρωση του πράσινου που φορούσαν τα περισσότερα συντάγματα του αυτοκρατορικού ρωσικού στρατού από το 1700 έως το 1914.

Το «Tyrian purple» είναι η σύγχρονη αγγλική ονομασία του χρώματος που στα λατινικά ονομάζεται «purpura». Άλλες σύγχρονες αγγλικές ονομασίες για το purpura είναι «imperial purple» και «royal purple». Η ίδια η αγγλική ονομασία «purple» (πορφυρό) αρχικά δήλωνε το συγκεκριμένο χρώμα purpura. Το purpura είναι το χρώμα μιας βαφής που εξάγεται από ένα μαλάκιο που βρέθηκε στις ακτές της πόλης της Τύρου στην αρχαία Φοινίκη (σύγχρονα στο Λίβανο), το οποίο χρώμα στην κλασική αρχαιότητα ήταν σύμβολο βασιλικής και πολιτικής εξουσίας, επειδή μόνο οι πολύ πλούσιοι μπορούσαν να το αγοράσουν, συμπεριλαμβανομένων των Ρωμαίων αυτοκρατόρων. Ως εκ τούτου, η πορφύρα της Τύρου ονομαζόταν επίσης «αυτοκρατορική πορφύρα».

Το γκριζοπράσινο (επίσης γνωστό ως γκριζοπράσινο, πρασινωπό-γκρι, σμαραγδένιο-γκρι ή πράσινο-γκρι) είναι ένα πρασινωπό-γκρι χρώμα.

Cadet color is a dark shade of cadet grey. The first recorded use of cadet as a color name in English was in 1915.

For printed material, purple (Pantone #268+) is the official school color of Kansas State University. Traditionally, the school has referred to this darker and bluer shade as Royal Purple. For the web, #512888 is the official color, even though that hex triplet is not a direct conversion from Pantone 268+.

Sap green is a green-looking pigment that was traditionally made of ripe buckthorn berries. However, modern colors marketed under this name are usually a blend of other pigments, commonly with a basis of Phthalocyanine Green G. It is one of the greens used in The Joy of Painting.

Magnolia is a colour named after the flowering plant of the genus Magnolia. An early use of magnolia as a colour name in English was in 1880, describing it as a "tint of cream-color". In the UK, magnolia is a creamy colour defined by British Standard BS 08B15, with the sRGB value (244, 233, 216) and CMYK (Coated) value (0, 5, 25, 0). Although the interiors of houses in the UK have commonly been painted in pale "stone colours" since the 18th century, the use of the name "magnolia" only dates from the 1950s.
