This is the same sound i recorded 6 years ago, back than i had just a very crappy microphone through my cellphone. Last year i bought an ipad, and i installed hokusai audio editor. This gave me a better way to record in higher quality. Still mono though, but it has less audio artifacts. This alarm is tested once every 3 months all over the swedish towns.

My apartment/studio was very quiet except for the steam heat so i put a mic in the middle of the room (an ear trumpet labs edwina) and put it through a lindell mic preamp and then into a focusrite 18i20 interface to record. Samples of the vintage korg mini pops 45 drum machine. No processing applied here but a very gentle fft based noise reduction. After all, i figured background noise was part of the machine's sonic identity. No patterns here, since that would have taken forever, just the individual sounds. I was just messing around with audacity again, this time slowing down my recording like a tape record, which not only stretched the time, but also turned down the frequency range which resulted in pitch shift. I stumbled around a sound that sounded like a huge horn exhaust - like those war pipes from celtics. So i experimented a little bit and made this one. Around 15 minutes of a fireworks show i went to. You can hear many different types of fireworks go off, with crackling, explosions, bangs, booms, etc. In this. This is the sound of a sheet metal that is under high tension, hitting it with a small key produced a laser fire type of sound. Recorded using a contact mic as the area is surrounded by a lot of noise, the contact mic cut out everything. I took this sample into melodyne and moved all of its frequencies into "c" range. This gets rid of harmonics and makes the sample well-suited to use as a musical instrument. I prefer the original sample for some purposes. Unprocessed, it has a richer sound. And i also truncated to get rid of a tricky bit i couldn't fix. And i combined stereo tracks into mono, since that works better for an instrument where one wants to control panning inside of a composition. So as a pure sound effect, i recommend the original. This version is just useful as an instrument.

I was demoing the new digital performer 10. 1 with a royer r-10 pair in blumlein array but wanted to check out one of the ribbons because it possibly sounded blown so i went ahead not bothering to create a new mono file. You can also maybe hear ocassional space bar-click sound maybe twice, but it's still pretty useable clip in my opinion, i recorded this just to test my new microphone, and because i couldn't sleep because of the loud birds singing, and in revenge i recorded that with my shiny new yinger bm800. This underwater breathing was created in audacity. To create this sound i generated 2 tracks rhythms on 2 different mono tracks. The sequence goes as follows: first, an annoucement in french says "red light for pedestrians", followed by the street name, then a jingle goes on, followed by a series of bell-like sounds, signaling a green light.
