Pine cones dropping and landing on a bed of pine needles. This recording was made on a windy day, so there is some background "whooshing" wind; all in all, i think these pine cones softly landing on the needles can be put to good use. For this recording i literally wanted to get as close as i could, so i placed the shotgun microphone on the ground and carefully let the pine cones fall as close to the microphone as possible, but without hitting it. *not easy to do. Lots of distance to my left and right so you get some nice long singular car bys. Maybe one or two instances with a multi car pass. The roads were wet when this recording was done.

I found this wonderful 4 foot high waterfall in a small canyon in the shawnee national forest in southern illinois. The cool splashing of the rivulet as it spilled out onto a catch-pool was enhanced by the echo as the sound bounced off the 3-sided grotto. Heard a barred owl calling in my backyard. Grabbed my zoom h4n with audio-technica at897 shotgun mic and started recording. Did some minor equalization to soften the higher frequencies and roll off the low end. Crickets are chirping in the background, a few other insects make some sounds. Soft droning of a couple planes flying by and vehicles from a highway about a mile away, but do not overpower the barred owl.
